Conservative Christians Miscount Michael Reagan | May 28, 2015

Michael Reagan

I don't care how popular the Duggar family and their TLC reality show "19 Kids & Counting" is with Christian conservatives.

I don't care how many Republican presidential hopefuls Josh Duggar posed with in Iowa, or how important his celebrity was to the Family Research Council, the conservative Christian lobbying group.

When the Duggar family's oldest son admitted he had molested and fondled five little girls - including some of his own sisters - when he was 14, it was time for conservative Christians to hold Josh and the Duggar family accountable for their actions.

Most didn't.

Also, I noticed, most of those who want to be the GOP's president in 2016 bit their tongues and pretended they hadn't heard the shocking news.

But not Mike Huckabee, the ordained Southern Baptist minister. He really blew it.

Rushing to his Facebook page, he said he and his wife affirmed their support for the Duggar family. He said what Josh did was "inexcusable" but not "unforgivable."

"Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things," Huckabee wrote.

Almost 70,000 of Huckabee's Facebook followers "liked" what he said, but he was completely wrong.

Child molesting is not a "mistake" you make when you're young. It's a crime against the innocent that should be prosecuted - and one I believe that should have no statute of limitations. In fact, the statute of limitations is only there to protect the guilty, not protect the innocent.

As we wait for more shoes to drop in this scandal, I have some uncomfortable questions people should be asking.

Let's start with Josh, who's now 27, has three kids and is no longer the executive director of the Family Research Council.

Was he a born a molester? Was he molested as a child?

Were other members of Josh's huge family molested? Should he be in therapy now? Are his own kids safe?

Child molesting is evil, sad, disgusting stuff. I know. I was molested by a camp counselor when I was eight. Though my father wanted to kick his butt when he found out 34 years later, my molester never paid for his "mistake." But I did.

Child molesting is often covered up - and most often it's the family itself that protects the molester.

Did Duggar's parents put their commercial success ahead of holding Josh accountable? Were they afraid to lose the national platform TLC gave them for their strict brand of Christian family values?

And speaking of TLC, shouldn't we be asking its executives what they knew about Josh's "mistake" and when they knew it? Did they care more about ratings and revenues than doing what was right?

Republicans and conservatives should be asking the people who run the Family Research Council the same tough ethical questions.

If it turns out they knew about Josh's past and were still willing to hire him because of his celebrity, the FRC's credibility is finished. Everything it believes in and has fought for will be lost. This scandal was a good time to do more than just fire Josh Duggar from the FRC and put the TV show on hold. It was also an opportunity to hold Josh accountable for his actions. But that didn't happen.

As for Huckabee, I also have some questions.

If you found out tomorrow that Barack Obama had molested his young nieces when he was 14, would you call that "a mistake" and say you were willing to forgive him?

What if teen-age Barack had been caught molesting, was reprimanded and was then caught molesting again a year later?

Would you still say no purpose would be served by discrediting Barack Obama or his family by "sensationalizing" the story? I bet not.

We all know why Huckabee blew it. He had Iowa on his mind, not God.

He didn't want to lose the support of the Duggar family or his Christian base, so he decided to call Josh Duggar's child molesting a "mistake."

But child molesting is never a mistake. No matter who does it, it's always a felony. And it's not something a cable network or a family is ever entitled to cover up.

Some Race Activists Are Harming Their Own Cause David Limbaugh | May 29, 2015

David Limbaugh
There was a mostly minority-on-minority bloodbath in Baltimore over the Memorial Day weekend, with 26 people shot and nine dead, and the main reaction we hear from the left is "racism."

How do perpetual race activists ever expect to be viewed as credible when they react to every incident, irrespective of the facts, as racially motivated?

Take Ferguson, Missouri, for example. Though a grand jury refused to return a criminal indictment against police Officer Darren Wilson in connection with what authorities concluded was his legally justifiable shooting of Michael Brown, racial activists continue to cite the tragedy as if it supports their case against racially motivated police misconduct. But is it honest for these activists to chant "hands up, don't shoot" concerning this case?

Likewise, objective observers surely can't help but notice the race-soaked atmosphere surrounding the prosecution of six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray. In her public announcement of the charges against these officers, Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby sounded more like a political activist than an officer of the court.

Rather than pledge her commitment to pursuing justice for all, she pointedly told the young black people in her city that she was seeking justice for them. More recently, we read that Mosby favorited a tweet calling the Baltimore police officers she is prosecuting "thugs," though she has claimed that her Twitter account was hacked and she didn't do it. No matter what her feelings about race, no matter what her background and experiences, no matter what the actual facts of the case are, she has a duty to seek justice for all the people she represents and for the legal system, not just certain groups.

Sadly, some people insist on viewing all incidents of black-on-black violence in the inner cities -- or of blacks being injured or killed in encounters with police -- through a racial prism, irrespective of the particular facts and circumstances involved and which individuals were actually responsible. It's a pattern of dehumanizing human beings, especially blacks, as it implies they are always victims, either of institutional racism or of specific racially driven mistreatment at the hands of certain cops.

Just as with Ferguson, the facts in Baltimore don't seem to matter to those thirsting for "justice" against cops. The state of Maryland and the city of Baltimore are run by liberal politicians, and the city has received a disproportionate share of federal monies. It has minorities on the City Council, a black mayor and a black prosecutor. Almost 50 percent of Baltimore police officers are black, and three of the six cops involved and charged in the Gray case are black. But none of that matters because the "cops are racist" and "institutional racism" templates must prevail, even before all the facts have come out.

When people approach these problems with a fixed mindset that prepares them to excuse all violence in minority communities as justified and individual perpetrators as victims of the system, there is no way to have a fair and productive discussion of these issues. If their voices prevail, we cannot move forward in our effort to reduce racial tensions or the violent crimes we see occurring.

Sean Hannity recently interviewed a black Baltimore city councilman and a black political activist about the weekend (and other) shootings in their city. One of the gentlemen said, "The fundamental problem with the coverage of these stories is that it's mired with racist subterfuge, because to talk about the violence that's going on in Baltimore and not talking about the systemic inequalities in racist policing practices that have led us to this point, it posits a situation where we're talking about either high violence in our communities or racist police when ... the task should be to fix both."

He went on to argue, "Structural racism and white supremacy is the source of both inter-communal violence between black people ... and it's also the source of police brutality in Baltimore." The people involved, the gentleman explained, don't have access to the same capital and resources as other people do, so their violence is apparently justified -- or at least mitigated.

It's one thing for him to talk about alleged racially driven police misconduct, but does he really believe that some blacks are shooting other blacks because of white-on-black racism? Is he saying that economic circumstances justify criminal violence or the $20 million in damage Baltimore rioters inflicted on their city without even knowing all the facts?

The black-on-black violence in Baltimore and other cities is running rampant, yet all the activists want to talk about is racism -- systemic or individual -- and they refuse to demand accountability from the perpetrators of the violence.

I am probably in the minority here, but I don't see how it helps the plight of the minority community to excuse violence on economic circumstances and to treat perpetrators of crime as victims. I don't understand how prejudging every unfortunate situation involving cops as race-motivated advances the cause of racial harmony or of calling needed attention to legitimate grievances.

It is not respectful of minorities to treat them like robots, incapable of responding to difficult economic circumstances or police misconduct without violence.

We should all be concerned about racism and actual cases of police misconduct, but we also should make sure that every human being in our society is treated with sufficient respect and dignity not to assume that he is a product of some sort of larger determinism and unaccountable for his actions.

Dems' Objections to OTC Birth Control? Republicans Are Behind It S. E. Cupp | Ma

S. E. Cupp

A long, long time ago -- way back in 2013 -- pro-choice progressives united in a new clarion call to make prescription birth control available over the counter. Now, for political reasons, they're changing their tune.

If you're one of the 10 million women in America who uses the pill, the prospect is nothing short of life-changing. Going to the doctor to refill the pill every month or even a couple times a year is annoying and time-consuming. And, according to many doctors, it's unnecessary. The pill is safe to take without a prescription.

"So why can't we have this, when the public and the medical establishment both think it's a great idea?" asked progressive journalist Amanda Marcottetwo years ago.

Indeed. Just last year, far-left women's groups Planned Parenthood and Emily's List also thought making birth control available OTC was a great idea.

And according to a Reason-Rupe poll, so do 70 percent of Americans.

Well, in an uncanny and highly unusual turn of events, lawmakers in Washington actually listened. Just this week, legislators introduced a bill that would encourage drug companies to apply to sell contraceptives without a prescription.

But if Republican Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, along with four other GOP senators, were expecting flowers from Planned Parenthood and others for their bill, the Allowing Greater Access to Safe and Effective Contraception Act, they should brace for disappointment. Suddenly, the idea doesn't sound so great, and the former supporters aren't mincing words.

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said the bill is a "sham and an insult to women."

Karen Middleton of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado even got personal, saying, "Cory Gardner can't be trusted when it comes to Colorado women and their health care."

Why the about-face? Well, the story the libs are going with is that the bill will actually make the pill more expensive once it's no longer prescription (and therefore not covered by insurance). Which would be a fair point if it were true.

The actual text of the bill just became public late yesterday, but that hasn't prevented hyperventilating condemnation for what it was presumed to do.

An op-ed by Planned Parenthood's Jennifer Frizzell said women would be "forced to pay several hundred dollars more out of pocket each year" and "pay twice for their birth control -- first they'll pay for insurance coverage that includes birth control coverage, and then they'll pay out of pocket for it, too."

Of course, some women would rather not pay as much as $300 in monthly premiums for Obamacare when they can buy birth control a la carte from $10 to $30 a month. But more importantly, there's nothing in the Gardner-Ayotte bill that says all forms of birth control must be made available OTC. Some may remain prescription only. Furthermore, the Obama administration already mandates that Plan B, emergency contraception that is OTC, be covered by insurance, and it could require the same of birth control.

As Sen. Ayotte told me in an email:

"Those who are falsely saying our legislation would eliminate insurance coverage apparently haven't read the bill -- nothing in our bill changes current insurance coverage for contraceptives or prevents insurance companies from continuing to cover contraceptive costs."

Beneath the fear-mongering lies the more likely reason for the change of heart on the left. The bill was simply introduced by the wrong party.

If Democrats cede this issue to Republicans, they lose a major chit in their "war on women" narrative. For years, pro-choice groups have been peddling the charge that Republicans are against access to birth control. But it's utterly (and provably) false.

For one, Gardner and Ayotte are not the first Republicans to champion OTC birth control. Gov. Bobby Jindal introduced the idea in 2012. For another, last year Gallup found that a whopping 88 percent of Republicans find birth control to be morally acceptable. To put this into greater perspective, more Republicans are OK with birth control than Democrats are okay with gay or lesbian relations (71 percent) or abortion (59 percent).

But rather than do the right thing for women, progressives are putting politics before women's health. One hopes that when they actually read the bill, Planned Parenthood and others will change their tune. More likely? They'll just come up with another reason to say no to something women want, but that they alone want to take credit for.

Who Built the Brooklyn Bridge? Michelle Malkin | May 29, 2015

Michelle Malkin
How many times have you heard President Obama and his minions pat themselves on the back for their noble "investments" in "roads and bridges"? Without government infrastructure spending, we're incessantly reminded, we wouldn't be able to conduct our daily business.

"Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive," Vice President Joe Biden infamously asserted. "Private enterprise," he sneered, lags behind.

As always, the Beltway narcissists have it backward. Without private enterprise and free-market visionaries, public infrastructure wouldn't exist. Take the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, which turned 132 years old this week. It's not a government official whose vision built that. It's a fierce capitalist who revolted against unimaginative command-and-control bureaucrats in his home country.

Before he went on to pioneer aqueducts and suspension bridges across America, culminating in the Brooklyn Bridge, John Roebling was a government engineer in the German province of Westphalia. A cog in the Prussian building machine, he chafed under autocratic rule. No decisions could be made, no actions taken, he complained in his diary, "without first having an army of government councilors, ministers, and other functionaries deliberate about it for ten years, make numerous expensive journeys by post, and write so many long reports about it, that for the amount expended for all this, reckoning compound interest for ten years, the work could have been completed."

Fed up with innovation-stifling conformity, subordination and red tape, the ambitious 25-year-old Roebling set sail for the U.S. in 1831 aboard the American-built ship August Edward. During the 78-day journey, he wrote of his hopes and dreams "to found a new home in the western continent beyond the ocean, a new fatherland free from tyranny." Upon arriving in Philadelphia, he celebrated his adopted land's free-market economy.

"The numerous hindrances, restrictions and obstacles, which are set up by timid governments and countless hosts of functionaries against every endeavor in Germany, are not to be found here," he reflected in a letter to friends and family.

"The foreigner must be astounded at what the public spirit of these republicans has accomplished up to now and what it still accomplishes every day. All undertakings take place through the association of private persons. In these the principal aim is naturally the making of money." The pursuit of self-interest was in of itself a source of public good, he concluded, "principally (as) a result of unrestricted intercourse in a concerted action of an enlightened, self-governing people."

Roebling failed at silkworm-farming, fabric-dying, rape seed oil farming and canary-raising before embarking on his engineering career. He patented an improved boiler for steamships, a safety gauge for a steam-boiler flue and a steam-powered motorcycle. He traveled wherever he could utilize his skills -- constructing dams on the Beaver River, consulting on hydraulics on the Croton River Aqueduct, knocking on doors for work across Pennsylvania.

With unbridled determination to build a lucrative family business, he patented and pioneered America's first commercially successful wire rope company. Frugal and financially savvy, Roebling operated on saved capital and refused to borrow. Several of his new clients paid him in stock, and he soon had a thriving investment portfolio. Coal mining companies in the anthracite region snapped up his sturdy cables.

Did he have "help" along the way? Plenty -- from other capitalists, that is.

Roebling purchased his wire from industrial pioneer Robert Townsend, who had founded the first iron wire mill west of the Allegheny Mountains in 1816. Townsend, who had learned the wire-making trade from Baltimore wire weaver Hugh Balderson, manufactured rivets, nails, fasteners and telegraph wire, in addition to supplying Roebling with wire for his early experiments and projects.

Samuel Wickersham's Pittsburgh Wire Works also supplied wire as Roebling gained more project work. And Sligo Iron Works made charcoal "blooms" for Roebling's wire: large blocks cast from molten iron and later steel, which were then "hot rolled" at high temperatures between two rotating cylinders into wire rods.

Later, Roebling's sons Charles and Ferdinand built a 200-acre state-of-the-art manufacturing campus, steel plant and village outside Trenton, N.J. Employing 8,000 workers, Kinkora Works produced everything from chicken wire and telegraph wire to tramway and elevator cables.

The suspension cables on the Golden Gate and George Washington bridges were manufactured by the Roeblings. So were the control cables in the Spirit of St. Louis, the first airplane to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and the tramway and construction cables used to build the Panama Canal. Even the wires used to stabilize the wings of the Wright Brothers' aircraft used Roebling trusses.

Here's the lesson White House progressives and Common Core historians won't teach: Roebling's Brooklyn Bridge is a towering legacy of the countless pursuits of individual American innovators who benefited the public by benefiting themselves and their families. The wealth-shaming social engineers in Washington will never understand. Private profit is a public good.

Ramos Can Stay, But Matt Lauer Has to Go Ann Coulter | May 27, 2015

Ann Coulter
I finally found a Mexican willing to do a job no American will do! I have an explosive book on the No. 1 issue in the country coming out next week, I've already written 10 New York Times best-sellers -- I'd be on a postage stamp if I were a liberal -- but can't get an interview on ABC, NBC or CBS.

Only Mexican-born Jorge Ramos would interview me on his Fusion network. Yay, Jorge!

After a spellbinding interview, Ramos ended by asking this excellent question -- which I had suggested myself for all authors, most of whom write very boring books, harming the marketability of my own books: "Is there anything in your book that isn't already generally known?"

My soon-to-be-released book, "Adios, America! The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole," is jam-packed with facts you didn't already know. Don't even think of using it as a coaster, like those other books.

These are just a few:

-- Teddy Kennedy's 1965 Immigration Act was expressly designed to change the demographics of our country to be poorer and more inclined to vote Democratic.

-- It worked! Post-1970 immigrants vote 8-2 for the Democrats.

-- Citing this dramatic shift in the Democratic Party's fortunes, Democratic consultant Patrick Reddy called the 1965 Immigration Act "the Kennedy family's greatest gift to the Democratic Party."

-- Immigrants admitted before 1970 made more money, bought more houses and were more educated than Americans. The post-Kennedy immigrants are astronomically less-educated, poorer and more likely to be on welfare than the native population.

-- With no welfare state to support them, about a third of pre-1965 Act immigrants returned to the places they came from. British and Jewish immigrants were the least likely to go home -- less than 10 percent did.

-- Although America is admitting more immigrants, they are coming from fewer countries than they did before 1970. On liberals' own terms, the country is becoming less "diverse," but a lot poorer and a lot more Latin.

-- America has already taken in one-fourth of Mexico's entire population.

-- In 1970, there were almost no Nigerian immigrants in the United States. Our country is now home to more Nigerians than any country in the world except Nigeria.

-- America takes more immigrants from Nigeria than from England.

-- The government refuses to tell us how many prisoners in the United States are immigrants. That information is not available anywhere. But the ancillary facts suggest that the number is astronomical.

-- There are more foreign inmates in New York state prisons from Mexico than from the entire continent of Europe.

-- Hispanics are less likely to be in the military than either whites or blacks, and a majority of Hispanic troops are women. On the other hand, Hispanics are overrepresented in U.S. Prisons.

-- In Denmark, actual Danes come in tenth in criminals' nationality, after Moroccans, Lebanese, Yugoslavians, Somalis, Iranians, Pakistanis, Turks, Iraqis and Vietnamese.

-- At least 15 percent of all births in Peru and Argentina are to girls between the ages of 10 and 15. In the U.S., only 2 percent of births are to girls that young, and those are mostly Hispanics, who are seven times more likely to give birth at that age than white girls are.

-- Sex with girls as young as 12 years old is legal in 31 of the 32 states of Mexico.

-- In all of Western Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Israel combined, there have been eight reported births to girls aged 10 or younger. Seven of the eight were impregnated by immigrants.

-- In some areas of America, law enforcement authorities have given up on prosecuting statutory rape cases against Mexican men in their 30s who impregnate 12- and 13-year-old girls, after repeatedly encountering parents who view their little girls' pregnancies as a "blessing."

-- The same North Carolina newspapers that gave flood-the-zone coverage to a rape that never happened at a Duke lacrosse party completely ignore real rapes happening right under their noses, being committed against children by immigrants providing cheap labor to the state's farming and meat-packing industries.

-- Since 2004, Mexicans have beheaded at least a half-dozen people in the United States.

-- Mexican drug cartels -- not ISIS -- pioneered the practice of posting videotaped beheadings online.

-- An alleged "ISIS" beheading video making the rounds in 2014 was actually a Mexican beheading video from 2010.

-- Post-1970 immigrants have re-introduced slavery to America. Indian immigrant Lakireddy Bali Reddy, for example, used the H1-B visa program, allegedly for "high-tech workers," to bring in 12-year-old girls he had bought from their parents for sex.

-- The above story was missed by the San Francisco Chronicle. It was broken by a high school journalism class.

-- The ACLU took Reddy's side.

-- We're still letting in Hmong immigrants as a reward for their help with the ill-fated Vietnam War, which ended 40 years ago.

-- Between 2000 and 2005, nearly 100 Hmong men were charged with rape or forced prostitution of girls in Minneapolis-St Paul, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The vast majority of the victims were 15 years old or younger. A quarter of the victims were not Hmong.

-- Proponents of the 1965 immigration bill swore up and down that it would not alter this country's demographic mix. In fact, Kennedy's immigration policy has brought about the greatest demographic shift of any nation in world history.

-- In 1980, Reagan won the biggest electoral landslide in history against an incumbent president, Jimmy Carter. Without the last 40 years of immigration, in 2012, Mitt Romney would have won a bigger landslide than Reagan did. He got more of the "Reagan coalition" than Reagan did.

-- If Romney had won 71 percent of the Hispanic vote, he still would have lost. If he'd gotten just 4 percent more of the white vote, he would have won.

Adios, America! In bookstores next Monday, June 1.

Liberals Respect Me Walter E. Williams | May 27, 2015

Walter E. Williams

During the early years of the Reagan administration, a Washington news conference was held for me for my first book, "The State Against Blacks." Before making summary statements about the book, I offered the reporters assembled that they could treat me like a white person. They could ask me hard, pressing questions. They could demand proof of the arguments that I was making.

People such as former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and former Chairman Julian Bond and the Rev. Al Sharpton can make ludicrous statements. An intimidated news media just swallow the nonsense. They are probably afraid to challenge, lest they suffer guilt feelings of racism or be seen as racists for demanding that a black person back up his comments with facts.

You say, "Give us some examples of ludicrous statements." Sharpton, commenting on black history, said, "White folks was in caves while we was building empires." Mfume said of George W. Bush, "We have a president that's prepared to take us back to the days of Jim Crow segregation and dominance." Bond said, "The Republican Party would have the American flag and the swastika flying side by side." When those statements were made -- and after other utterances of nonsense -- I did not hear of any reporters demanding evidence. Racial etiquette or politeness requires that no pressing questions be asked of liberal blacks.

A number of people have made angry responses to statements made in my column a fortnight ago, titled "Some Odds and Ends." I pointed out that liberal Democrats claim that conservative Republicans have launched a war on women as a part of their overall mean-spirited agenda. Assault, rape and murder are the worst things that can be done to a woman. I said: "I would be willing to bet a lot of money that most of the assaults, rapes and murders of women are done by people who identify as liberals or Democrats, particularly in the cases of murderers. Most crime, except perhaps white-collar crime, is committed by people who vote Democratic." People have demanded to know what my evidence is. There are bits and pieces of evidence that show that most murderers are people who politically identify as liberals or Democrats. Whether these people also vote their preferences is not so evident.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice report "Homicide Trends in the United States, 1980-2008," blacks accounted for 52.5 percent of homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008 . It appears to be a fact that most murders are committed by blacks. The next fact appears obvious: Most blacks identify politically as liberals or Democrats. In fact, the 2008 and 2012 elections showed that at least 95 percent of blacks were Democrats. If one adds whites and Hispanics who also identify politically as liberals or Democrats, I think there is no question that liberals and Democratic Party sympathizers commit most of the murders in the U.S. None of this is to say that whites are crime-free. Whites are a greater percentage of our population and commit most of every type of crimeexcept homicide and burglary.

I'm pleased that readers have demanded proof from me about my comments. Similar proof is not demanded from liberals who accuse Republicans of warring against women. I would ask several questions. Do Republicans include in this attack their mothers, wives and female children? What are the weapons Republicans use? Are failing to believe in late-term abortion and wanting to require parental knowledge and permission prior to a minor's receiving birth control medication or an abortion tantamount to warring against women? Finally, are Republican women involved in the war against women?

Far more important for me in all of this is that liberals unintentionally treat me like a white person. Unlike their response to other blacks, they demand that I back up my statements. For that, I thank them.
