Another White House Play Date with Muslim Jihad

Forget Paula Deen. There are far more dangerous bigots and poisonous haters spoiling the American landscape. They cook up violent rhetoric and murderous plots against our troops, our citizens and our allies 24/7. And they have direct access to the White House.

Earlier this week, the indefatigable Investigative Project on Terrorism blew the whistle on the Obama administration's latest flirtation with Muslim jihad. Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah bragged on his website that he had met with Team Obama on June 13. IPT reported that bin Bayyah was invited by National Security Council official Gayle Smith "to learn from you and we need to be looking for new mechanisms to communicate with you and the Association of Muslim Scholars."

Someone associated with bin Bayyah deleted his website reference to the meeting, but the Internet is forever. The White House has now 'fessed up to the confab. According to Fox News, a senior official spun the troubling event as a discussion about "poverty, global health efforts and bin Bayyah's own efforts to speak out against al-Qaida."

Bin Bayyah's moderate Muslim costume shouldn't fool anyone. This sharia thug, who has worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to boost his progressive-friendly cred, lobbied the United Nations to outlaw all mockery and criticism of Allah. He raised money to benefit the terror group Hamas. He is a top lieutenant of Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf Qaradawi, who exhorts followers to kill every last Jew; sanctioned suicide bombings and the killing of our soldiers; expressed support for executing apostates and stoning gays; and declared that the "U.S. is an enemy of Islam that has already declared war on Islam under the disguise of war on terrorism and provides Israel with unlimited support."

As jihad watchdogs have reported, the administration has rolled out the red carpet for dozens of Muslim Brotherhood officers, flacks and sympathizers. IPT noted last year: "White House visitor logs show that top U.S. policy-makers are soliciting and receiving advice from people who, at best, view the war on terrorism as an unchecked war on Muslims. These persons' perspectives and preferred policies handcuff law enforcement and weaken our resolve when it comes to confronting terrorism."

No kidding. Another Qaradawi cheerleader, Hisham al-Talib, was welcomed last spring at the White House by Obama's Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Four days later, White House officials welcomed a foreign delegation of the radical sharia-enforcing Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt. As I reported previously, al-Talib is an Iraqi-born Muslim identified by the FBI as a Muslim Brotherhood operative and a major contributor to the left-wing Center for Constitutional Rights, the group of jihadi-sympathizing lawyers who helped spring suspected Benghazi terror plotter Abu Sufian bin Qumu from Gitmo.

Al-Talib is also a founding member of the SAAR Foundation and the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). FBI and Customs officials believe SAAR/SAFA laundered money for a plethora of violent Muslim terrorist groups, from Hamas and Hezbollah to al-Qaida and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Investigative journalist Patrick Poole reported recently that the Obama DOJ dropped planned prosecutions of IIIT leaders including al-Talib, despite being "targeted and repeatedly named in the 2003 U.S. Customs Service search warrant application by Customs Agent David Kane targeting the SAAR Foundation/SAFA Group terror finance network."

IIIT was also a demonstrated unindicted co-conspirator in the feds' Holy Land Foundation terror financing case and supported convicted terror aides Sami al-Arian and Abdul Rahman al-Amoudi. Al-Amoudi was the first president of the Islamic Society of Boston mosque, where Boston bomber jihad brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, used to worship.

We need a zero tolerance policy for jihadist infiltrators and coddlers in Washington. Let's make the most transparent administration ever live up to the hype. I suggest the White House be required to raise the black flag of Islamic jihad at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue every time President Obama welcomes these treacherous visitors.

Even better: Let's take a page from Kanye West and project the names of all the Ikhwan-linked goons who are allowed to darken the White House doorstep onto the side of the Old Executive Office Building for all to see -- along with their most infamous hate videos and fatwas against Jews, infidels, gays, women and U.S. soldiers. No more play dates with Muslim jihad behind closed doors. Light 'em up.

The totalitarian political left proves every day its relentless determination to complete President Obama's stated goal of fundamentally transforming this country. The political right can either wake up to this reality and unite in promoting a better vision or stand by and watch its children's future disintegrate.

The left criticizes the right for its alleged partisanship, extremism, intolerance and angst, when the left dwarfs the right in all these characteristics.

Contrary to leftist propaganda, mainstream conservatives haven't grown more strident or extreme -- unless you define extremists as those who are valiantly trying to preserve America's greatness and prevent the left from steamrolling its agenda against the will of the people.

At this point, conservatives would almost be happy just to preserve a modicum of the institutional greatness that has made this country the most extraordinary nation in world history.

Notwithstanding a recent Rasmussen poll revealing that Obama supporters believe tea party members constitute as great a threat to the country as Islamic terrorists, we don't see misbehavior, violence or extremism emanating from the maligned tea party. We do, however, see it from the leftist Occupy Wall Street movement and leftist union thugs.

It is the left that has grown dramatically more extreme and belligerent. The left has no interest in bipartisanship or camaraderie with the right except to the extent that it can secure support of useful, establishment Republicans to naively enable its extremist agenda.

Liberals are forcing their agenda on this nation bit by bit, dismantling its institutions brick by brick, but there is no satisfying them. With each victory, their appetite for more only increases. Likewise, with each defeat, they renew their resolve and redouble their efforts. They know they are rewarded for their relentlessness and their perseverance. They know that the right lacks the unity, the moral courage and the stamina to put as much on the line in behalf of its own ideas, so they think it's just a matter of time before they prevail.

The so-called wealthy pay dramatically more in income tax and most other taxes, both in terms of a percentage of their income and in actual dollars. The bottom half of income earners pay no income taxes; 20 percent of the people are on food stamps; and other welfare programs are bursting at the seams. But it's never enough for liberals, especially Obama. Until the wealthy are no longer wealthy, Obama will not be satisfied.

No matter what progress the nation has made on civil rights and race, it will not be enough for the left, for grievance is its lifeblood.

The left doesn't want merely to live and let live. It must demonize the wealthy, corporations, big oil, the coal industry and banks. It doesn't just want acceptance of gays. It wants to demonize as bigots those who believe in preserving traditional marriage.

Its professed dedication to religious liberty is a sham. We've seen the selective assaults on speech and on Christian expression in the United States military under this administration. We've watched Obama brazenly obliterate his promise not to intrude on the conscience rights of religious institutions.

Obama has succeeded in cramming Obamacare down the people's throats with endless lies and bribes and, to this day, remains unaccountable for any of his deceptions. The program is recognized as a "train wreck," but he's unapologetically doubling down.

Obama has openly targeted for extinction and abuse the coal and oil industries in the name of the junk science of man-made "climate change." Yet even if this "science" were true, all of the left's proposed remedies wouldn't appreciably reduce global temperature over the next century, even if other powerful nations participated. So it is not abating global warming liberals seek but the statism they are advancing in its name.

Obama's Justice Department refuses to prosecute actual cases of voter intimidation committed by the left's constituents and manufactures false allegations of voter suppression by its opponents, and Obama's White House orchestrates the systematic suppression of opposition voters through the instrumentality of a dangerously politicized and tyrannical Internal Revenue Service. When caught, they stonewall and plead the Fifth but never apologize. They just soldier on as if on a mission from some god.

The examples are endless, but what will never be endless is the left's determination to radically and permanently change this country from what made it great to what will ensure its demise.

Unless and until the political right comes to its senses about Obama and the left's ultimate goals, demonstrates the moral courage to fight back just as hard as they do and unites in a firm commitment to keep America strong, prosperous and free, America as we know it will end; it's just a matter of time.

But despite my seeming pessimism, in the end, I believe that America will awaken to the gravity of the threats it faces and fight back to beat them back. I refuse to believe otherwise.

After the bad news on gay marriage out of the Supreme Court this week, here's some good news for conservatives: Demographics are on our side!

As M. Stanton Evans has recently pointed out, "Believers in religious doctrine, the traditional family and pro-life attitudes on abortion are systematically outperforming their secular-liberal opponents in the demographic sweepstakes -- having appreciably more children per couple -- resulting in a fertility gap that works against the liberals."

Republican states, such as Utah and Kentucky, have been steadily gaining population, while liberal states, such as New York and Vermont, are consistent demographic losers. It should not come as a surprise, though it always does, that people opposed to abortion are out-populating those who consider abortion a right.

Jewish publications have repeatedly observed that the declining fertility rate among all American Jews except the Orthodox -- the group that votes 86 percent Republican -- means that, in another generation or two, Jews could be majority Republican. (What a wonderful world it would be if Marco Rubio had half of Chuck Schumer's IQ!)

But liberals always have a workaround. For decades, their solution to the left's demographic collapse has been immigration. Idiot Republicans being buffaloed into supporting Rubio's amnesty bill are not merely throwing Democrats a lifeline -- they're allowing Democrats to flip an imminent conservative victory into a permanent liberal majority.

With native-born liberals unwilling to reproduce themselves, liberals need a constant influx of new Democratic voters from other countries -- and there happen to be 11 million of them living here right now! Contrary to Rubio-Republicans who think "they all look alike," the vast majority of Hispanics are not "social conservatives." (That's blacks, Marco.)

In addition to being the one ethnic group most opposed to capitalism -- even more than Occupy Wall Street protesters! -- polls show that Hispanics are more pro-abortion than other Americans (66 percent of Hispanics versus 50 percent of other voters) and favor gay marriage more than other Americans (59 percent compared to 48 percent of all voters). They also support big government by an astronomical 75 percent and Obamacare, in particular, by 62 percent. (Polls: Pew, ABC, ABC, Pew, Fox)

Of course the Democrats want these illegals voting!

It is of no concern to the Democratic Party that illegal aliens are lawbreakers and overwhelmingly minimum-wage workers. Liberals don't care about the working class having millions more low-skilled workers competing with them, and they certainly don't care about the country. They just want to win elections. (If only it would occur to Republicans that they need to win elections, too.)

Next, Democrats will be demanding that we set up polling booths in the prisons and sending Marco Rubio out to argue that we already have "de facto" prison-voting.

Like so much mischievous legislation, Republicans are being told, "We have got to do this yesterday!" If we don't produce a global warming bill, the American people will have our heads! If we don't pass campaign finance reform tomorrow, the voters will punish us! You're not seriously thinking of blocking a new gun control bill, are you?

Then, it always turns out: No, there's not going to be a backlash. The only politicians ever punished for a gun vote were the entire House Democratic caucus in the Republican sweep of 1994. The only politician who was ever punished for his position on global warming is Al Gore.

But Democrats love to act like everything's a crisis, so Republicans don't have time to think and can be stampeded into doing something stupid. When it comes to government, doing nothing is often the best course.

Republicans have to understand: You are not going to be punished by Hispanics for voting against this Obamacare-like monstrosity of an amnesty bill. If you have Hispanics in your district, they're already voting against you.

The Lindsey Graham argument is: Now when they vote against you, they'll really hate you.

Hispanics are 8.4 percent of the electorate, so we're talking about the 80 percent of 8.4 percent of voters who will never vote Republican, anyway. They will allegedly hold this one anti-amnesty vote against Republicans -- despite polls showing Hispanics don't care about amnesty. Those are the voters Republicans are determined to make hate them less, while enraging every American who doesn't benefit from cheap labor or Democratic votes.

Meanwhile, don't imagine, Republicans, that you can buy off your anti-amnesty constituents with another meaningless vote to repeal Obamacare.

Does it occur to these brainless wonders in the GOP that the Democrats wouldn't be agitating for amnesty if it didn't get them votes? That's all it's about. Liberals want the rest of the world's poor to come here not only to raise their children, clean their houses, manicure their lawns and cook their meals, but to give birth to the Democratic children that liberals aren't having.

Will the Left ever stop playing the race card?

Not in my lifetime, it won't.

The Obama Left in this country acts like we're still living in 1960, when racism was legally, socially and morally sanctioned across the South and elsewhere.

Here's a newsflash, folks. It's 2013. Racism is not extinct and never will be as long as human beings walk the Earth. But despite President Obama's constant efforts to persuade his low-information constituencies otherwise, examples of overt or institutionalized racism are harder to find in America today than a rotary pay phone or a Studebaker.

Of course, this reality doesn't matter a bit to the Obama Left. It still sees racism everywhere it looks -- and it looks for it everywhere.

Why? Because the left knows playing the race card is guaranteed to get them votes and saturated coverage from the friendly liberal media.

Sadly, dealing the race card works. It doesn't matter if the issue involves racist words uttered years ago by Food Network star Paula Deen or the latest U.S. Supreme Court decision.

Deen is the latest celebrity who's been slapped with the race card. The 66-year-old product of the Jim Crow South, whose food and restaurant empire reportedly made her $17 million in 2012, is taking a serious financial hit not for something racist she blurted on her TV show, and not for anything she had been secretly recorded saying in private.

Deen's been sacked by the Food Network and dumped by one of her biggest sponsors simply because she was honest and admitted in a deposition in a discrimination suit that she had used the N-word privately in her past.

The N-word was once heard in every corner of white America. We're a better country because it's so rarely heard today -- unless you listen to rap or watch bad Quentin Tarantino movies.

If merely ever speaking the N-word in your lifetime is cause for losing your job today, then kiss half of Congress and the news media goodbye.

Crying racism works -- President Obama knows this political truth like he knows the back nine at Andrews Air Force Base. He immediately slapped the race card down on the table Tuesday when he heard about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to gut a key part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The act was needed 48 years ago. That's when Democrats in Southern states were using dirty tactics to deny black citizens the vote and Congress decided the best way to prevent it was to make states get federal approval to change their voting laws.

But now the voting rights law is obsolete. Black voters are not being denied the vote because of their race, but that reality didn't enter into the president's cynical political calculus.

Before MSNBC's Obama echo chamber could decry the high court's 5-4 decision, he pronounced he was "deeply disappointed" and called on Congress to pass a new law to fix a problem that he knows no longer exists.

Please, BO, spare us the BS.

You were "deeply disappointed"? No you weren't. You were playing your racial card game. I challenge you to show us one instance in one state where the federal voting rights law is still needed.

You can't, Mr. President. So put your race card away. Put it back where it belongs -- at the bottom of your deck.

There's a move on to prohibit Washington's football team from calling itself "Redskins," even though a 2009 U.S. Supreme Court decision said that it has that right. Now the name change advocates are turning to the political arena and intimidation. The NCAA has already banned the University of North Dakota from calling its football team the "Fighting Sioux."

This is the classic method of busybodies and tyrants; they start out with something trivial or small and then magnify and extend it. If these people are successful in banning the use of Indian names for football teams, you can bet the rent money that won't end their agenda. Our military has a number of fighting aircraft named with what busybodies and tyrants might consider racial slights, such as the Apache, Iroquois, Kiowa, Lakota and Mescalero. We also have military aircraft named after animals, such as the Eagle, Falcon, Raptor, Cobra and Dolphin. The people fighting against the Redskins name might form a coalition with the PETA animal rights kooks to ban the use of animal names.

Another example of the strategy of starting out small is that of the tobacco zealots. In 1965, in the name of health, tobacco zealots successfully got Congress to enact the Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act. A few years later, they were successful in getting a complete smoking ban on planes, and that success emboldened them to seek many other bans. The issue here is not smoking, but tyrant strategy.

Suppose that in 1965, the tobacco tyrants demanded that Congress enact a law banning smoking in bars, in workplaces, in restaurants, in apartments, within 25 feet of entrances, in ballparks, on beaches, on sidewalks and in other places. Had they revealed and demanded their full agenda back in 1965, there would have been so much resistance that they wouldn't have gotten anything. By the way, much of their later success was a result of a bogus Environmental Protection Agency study on secondhand smoke. I'd like to hear whether EPA scientists are willing to declare that people can die from secondhand smoke at a beach, on a sidewalk, in a park or within 25 feet of a building.

During the legislative and subsequent state ratification debates over the 16th Amendment -- which established the income tax -- the political task of overturning the Constitution's prohibition of such tax was considerably eased by political promises that any income tax levied would fall upon only the wealthiest 3 to 5 percent of the population. Most Americans paid no federal income tax, and those earning $500,000 or more paid only 7 percent. In 1913, only 358,000 Americans filed 1040 forms, compared with today's 140 million. That's the rope-a-dope strategy. To get the votes of the masses, politicians start out small and exploit the politics of envy by promising that only the rich will be taxed.

In 1898, Congress imposed a temporary federal excise tax on telephones as a revenue measure during the Spanish-American War. At that time, only the rich owned phones. Soon nearly all Americans owned phones. Both the rich and the poor paid the telephone excise tax. Congress repealed this "temporary" Spanish-American War tax in 2006. Nobel laureate Milton Friedman had it right when he said, "Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program."

The Tax Reform Act of 1969, called the alternative minimum tax, was created to raise revenue from 155 "rich" Americans who legally avoided federal income taxes by buying tax-free municipal bonds. Today more than 4 million Americans are hit by the AMT, and most of them hardly qualify as rich.

Here's another rope-a-dope just beginning. The National Transportation Safety Board recently recommended that states reduce the allowable blood alcohol content by more than a third -- to 0.05 percent, as opposed to today's 0.08 percent. The NTSB is calling it a recommendation just to test the waters. If the board doesn't see resistance, its next move will be to threaten noncomplying states with a cutoff of highway construction funds. Setting the legal limit at 0.05 percent is not these people's end objective. Their end objective is to outlaw any amount of alcohol in the blood while one is driving.

People say America is a free country. But what if you want to drink, have a cigarette or make a bet? Government often says "no" to protect us from ourselves.

It's as if the government is still run by the Puritans who settled this land four centuries ago. They said pleasure and luxury are sinful.

Today's government has a better argument when it seeks to restrict activities that might harm others, but I notice that even then, it often focuses more on things that upset modern-day Puritans.

Drinking and driving can be fatal. But government data show that sleeplessness and driving are just as deadly. Having kids in the back seat, looking at GPS map instructions, fiddling with the radio and eating while driving are often deadly, too.

But sleeplessness doesn't seem as decadent and irresponsible as drinking. Nor is there an easy way for police to test for such discretions -- no breathalyzer test for excessive radio tuning.

Why is the DUI test all about alcohol level, rather than behavior? Government keeps lowering legal blood-alcohol levels -- recently from .10 to .08 -- and now they want to lower it to .05. But some people are good drivers even after a drink or two. It would be better to punish people for "reckless" driving.

Alcohol-related driving deaths are down. Groups like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) credit tougher DUI laws, but it's not clear that they are right.

Maybe people are simply more aware of the dangers, thanks to publicity from groups like MADD. Safer car designs helped, too. Non-alcohol-related driving deaths are also down.

Stats that some cite to claim alcohol is the cause of a third of highway accidents are misleading. That just means that a third of the people had alcohol in their systems; it doesn't necessarily mean alcohol caused the accident.

I don't suggest that drinking and driving is safe or smart. But the puritanical obsession with drinking distracts us from other ways we could make driving safer.

At least DUI laws seek to protect people from others. But government puritans go well beyond that, banning activities that harm only the individual engaged in them -- like gambling.

Polls show 70 percent of you support the current ban on Internet gambling.

Why? It's true, for some people, gambling becomes addictive. Some wreck their lives. But for most people, gambling is entertainment, practice in using strategy and an excuse to socialize. A little risk is fun. And the laws don't stop the activity. They drive it underground, where it's run by criminals.

If we banned every activity that had the potential to become addictive, we'd have to ban fatty foods, sex, alcohol and investing in the stock market. Life means risk.

Sometimes puritans want to ban things without any evidence that the activity is harmful. After every mass shooting, someone wants to tax, or ban, violent video games.

Yet violent offenses by youth fell by more than half over the past two decades, while video game sales doubled. If there's a causal relationship, maybe playing video games prevents kids from behaving violently.

Japan spends much more on violent video games than the U.S., but its crime rate is much lower. Maybe the Japanese get it out of their system through make-believe? I don't know. But I do know that a lack of evidence rarely stops the puritans.

The puritanical panics of today may look silly someday. In the 1950s, a psychiatrist testified that Superman comic books inspire juvenile delinquency.

After hearing about those moral panics, you might feel like relaxing with a cold beer. But don't try buying one from a convenience store in Indiana. The state requires that the beer be sold warm.

In theory, warm beer will discourage drinking on the road.

I doubt that such laws help. Perhaps puritanical laws don't have to make sense. They just have to leave us feeling righteous because we've done something to crack down on bad behavior.

Meet Ryan Patrick Winkler. He's a 37-year-old liberal Minnesota state legislator with a B.A. in history from Harvard University and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. He's also a coward, a bigot, a liar and a textbook example of plantation progressivism.

On Tuesday, Winkler took to Twitter to rant about the Supreme Court's decision to strike down an onerous section of the Voting Rights Act. The 5-4 ruling overturned an unconstitutional requirement that states win federal preclearance approval of any changes to their election laws and procedures. Winkler fumed: "VRA majority is four accomplices to race discrimination and one Uncle Thomas."

This Ivy League-trained public official and attorney relied on smug bigotry to make his case against a Supreme Court justice who happens to be black. "Uncle Thomas" wasn't a typo. Denigration was the goal, not an accident. It was a knowing, deliberate smear.

After being called out by conservative social media users for his cheap attack on Clarence Thomas, Winkler then revealed his true color: yellow. He deleted the tweet (captured for posterity at my Twitter curation site, twitchy.com) and pleaded ignorance.

"I did not understand 'Uncle Tom' as a racist term, and there seems to be some debate about it. I do apologize for it, however," he sniveled. "I didn't think it was offensive to suggest that Justice Thomas should be even more concerned about racial discrimination than colleagues," he protested.

Holding a black man to a different intellectual standard based on his skin color. Accusing a non-white conservative of collectivist race traitorism. Employing one of the most infamous, overused epithets against minority conservatives in the Democratic lexicon. "Apologizing," but disclaiming responsibility. Sorry ... that he got caught.

Just another day at the left-wing racist office.

Rabid liberal elitists expect and demand that we swallow their left-wing political orthodoxy whole and never question. When we don't yield, their racist and sexist diatribes against us are unmatched. My IQ, free will, skin color, eye shape, name, authenticity and integrity have been routinely ridiculed or questioned for more than two decades because I happen to be an unapologetic brown female free-market conservative. My Twitter account biography jokingly includes the moniker "Oriental Auntie-Tom" -- just one of thousands of slurs hurled at me by libs allergic to diversity of thought -- for a reason. It's a way to hold up an unflinching mirror at the holier-than-thou NoH8 haters and laugh.

We conservatives "of color" are way past anger about the Uncle Tom/Aunt Tomasina attacks. We're reviled by the left for our "betrayal" of our supposed tribes -- accused of being Uncle Toms, Aunt Tomasinas, House N*ggas, puppets of the White Man, Oreos, Sambos, lawn jockeys, coconuts, bananas, sellouts and whores. This is how the left's racial and ethnic tribalists have always rolled. But their insults are not bullets. They are badges of honor. The Uncle Tom card has been played out.

Of course Winkler didn't think it was offensive. Smarty-pants liberal racists never think they're being racist. In their own sanctimonious minds, progressives of pallor can never be guilty of bigotry toward minority conservatives. Ignorance is strength. Slurs are compliments. Intolerance is tolerance.

And when all else fails, left-wing prejudice is always just a well-intended joke. (PBS commentator Julianne Malveaux's death wish for Justice Thomas set the standard: "I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. ... He is an absolutely reprehensible person.")

Back in her day, before the advent of democratizing social media, Malveaux and her elitist PBS friends could get away with such vile bile. But liberal crabs in the bucket, viciously trying to drag dissenters "of color" down, can no longer engage in hit-and-run with impunity. Conservatives on Twitter have changed the dynamic in an underappreciated, revolutionary way. The pushback against liberal political bigotry is bigger, stronger and swifter than it's ever been.

You can delete, but you cannot hide.

Several months ago, I agreed to write this weekly column and to use it not just to express my views, but to express the views we shared with the many thousands of Americans we met on the campaign trail last year.

In our travels across this great country, we learned so much about the challenges you face, your hopes and your dreams, and what you want from your leaders in Washington. We also learned of your frustration that many of your views and the issues you hold dear are not understood or adequately represented. That's what we have tried to do here -- provide a voice on these issues. And I think we have made a difference.

Some of the issues we've taken head-on include the vital need for new manufacturing jobs in America and education and training programs to support them; the need for our Republican leaders to engage with all Americans, not just those who live in elite ZIP codes in coastal cities and have advanced degrees and professional jobs; the rights of families and parents to make decisions about their children's health care and not to leave it to United Nations committees; the stonewalling and incompetence the Obama administration has demonstrated on foreign policy issues -- for example, the tragedy in Benghazi, Libya, the growing Iranian nuclear program and the rise of extreme Islamic governments in places such as Egypt; and, of course, the critical importance of traditional marriage and the family as the underpinnings of strong communities in America.

Most importantly, though, I'd like to think we have given a voice to the voiceless -- the unborn, the disabled, the sick and all of those whose quality of life is questioned by far too many in this country. Every life is a gift, and we must do all we can to protect them all. If we can't do that basic thing -- our most important responsibility -- then no other issue matters.

Last year, after the presidential campaign, we formed a group called Patriot Voices, which is committed to fighting for all of these issues -- faith, family, freedom, and opportunity. And now I've joined EchoLight Studios as its CEO. It's a fast-growing faith and family film production company that is using film to promote many of these same ideas. Through Patriot Voices and now EchoLight, I will continue to promote a positive culture and stay engaged in the political process as America looks to find the right leaders in 2016.

Many thousands of you have supported us, and we will continue to fight. But rather than use our pen for this weekly column, we're going to be using our feet and our voices more going forward. We'll use our feet to cover as much of the country as we can to meet you and listen to you. And we'll use our voices to take your message back to Washington and out into the media so that you, too, can be heard. With the resources we have, we need to make every minute count -- and this is the best way for us to do our work going forward.

We're at a critical time in our country. There are many big issues being debated right now -- the proper size and role of government, the size and capabilities of our military, the definition of marriage and family, and the true meaning and importance of our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Now more than ever, we need to focus our efforts, resources and message and win these arguments. We can't afford to let up. So that's what Patriot Voices will be doing.

As another Fourth of July holiday approaches, we'll celebrate the original American patriots -- those great men and women who fought for our independence against tyranny. They are the ones who established this great country and defined who we are as Americans. We must protect these freedoms they established and articulated in the Declaration of Independence:

"We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

That's what it's all about. And that's what Patriot Voices is all about. So though you won't read us here anymore, you will see us out there, and we look forward to listening to you and carrying your message. God bless and happy Independence Day!

As time has passed and the immigration bill's proponents have become more breathless, my opposition to the bill has increased. Let me count the ways.

Proponents tell us we have an immigration crisis. Exactly how does one define crisis? They told us we had a health care and health insurance crisis, too, and they gave us Obamacare, making matters worse on both counts. We do have a national debt crisis and the most anemic economic recovery since World War II, yet proponents ignore these genuine crises while demanding we act immediately on immigration reform.

They say that this bill would not constitute amnesty, that we already have de facto amnesty today. But they also tell us that some 11 million illegals are living in the shadows. Which is it? They can't have it both ways. If they have amnesty, they're not living in the shadows.

The bill involves exorbitant costs, probably trillions of dollars. Proponents can't begin to refute this charge but instead just attack their cost critics as hyperbolic. My money is on those who guess high, not ludicrously low, on future government expenses.

Most illegals receive way more in government benefits than they pay in taxes, with the estimated net cost to taxpayers exceeding $50 billion. This bill would entitle many of them to substantially more benefits. Also, the new spending of the bill probably would not be offset in the budget as required by the Budget Control Act, because it would be designated "emergency spending" and moved off budget.

The incessant ads promoting this bill have an Obamacare ring to them. If the wonders of this legislation were so obvious, would the proponents need to badger us into supporting it? Would they need to distort its provisions and mischaracterize it as "conservative" to get it passed? How conservative is it to undermine the rule of law, the unique American culture, the very future of the Republican Party? How conservative is it to place border enforcement on a back burner, to preside over the creation of many new bureaucratic commissions and task forces, and to grant this administration disturbingly more discretion over border enforcement when it has already proved its commitment to undermining enforcement? Why would any "right-thinking" person grant more discretionary enforcement authority, including the right to waive requirements for illegals to obtain "registered provisional immigrant" status, to an executive branch that ideologically opposes enforcement and that doesn't even believe in a unique American culture but instead worships at the altar of multiculturalism? Indeed, this Department of Homeland Security says border enforcement has never been stronger.

In terms of solving the immigration problem once and for all -- as proponents boast it would do -- the bill doesn't substantially differ from the 1986 amnesty law. It would confer a degree of legality immediately in exchange for unenforceable promises of future enforcement. (The specifics of these illusory promises are too numerous to detail here.) It would likely cause an increase in future immigration between the time of the bill's passage and the implementation, if ever, of border enforcement measures, because it would incentivize more people to come and partake of the benefits. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that we'd have 5 million new illegals 10 years after the bill's passage. When added to an estimated 3 million who will never be found, that makes 8 million illegals remaining from a bill promising to forever end the problem. If 11 million constitutes a crisis now, why wouldn't 8 million in the future?

GOP proponents maintain that we have to support this bill in order to increase our share of the growing Hispanic vote. That is absurd on its face because it ignores a) that they said the same thing in support of the 1986 amnesty bill and the opposite occurred, b) that any thinking Hispanic would see right through such opportunistic pandering, c) the incalculable damage that the GOP's support for this bill would do to the existing base, d) that Obama and Democrats would get exclusive credit for passing the bill, e) that Obama and Democrats would continue to bludgeon the GOP after the bill passed, saying that if it hadn't been for nativist Republicans, unconditional amnesty would have been achieved, f) that Obama and Democrats would use the same ruthless charges of racism and nativism to pressure Republicans into relaxing or eliminating the law's phantom enforcement triggers and other obstacles in the path to full-blown citizenship for the former illegals, and g) that tens of millions of largely new Democratic voters would eventually destroy the GOP. It's not the demise of the GOP I fear but the further demise of the nation if no conservative alternative would arise to fill the vacuum.

Liberals are always talking about fairness, but how fair would this bill be to the 4 1/2 million immigrants who are trying diligently to play by the rules?

I'm just getting warmed up, but the odds of anything but mischief coming from a 1,000-page bill that lawmakers won't even take time to read are minuscule.
