Say No to the Islamic "Victory" Mosque at Ground Zero

Dear friend,

A New York City commission has paved the way for an Islamic mosque
to be built at Ground Zero - the very site where Islamic radicals
murdered 3,000 American citizens!

If the Islamic mosque were built on the site, not only would it
disrespect the memories murdered, it would essentially become a
"victory flag" planted on hallowed soil.

Grassfire Nation has launched a national petition opposing the
"victory" mosque being placed at Ground Zero, and intends on
taking 200,000 grassroots petitions from Americans across the
nation to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Governor David
Paterson and other key officials involved in the debate.

Take a moment to join with me and other American citizens who oppose
this affront to the memories of those murdered during the 9-11 attacks
on our nation by clicking below and adding your name to this important
petition:

Sincerely,

'Glenn Beck': Media Miss Restoring Honor Rally's Message

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

This is a rush transcript from "Glenn Beck," August 28, 2010. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GLENN BECK, HOST: Hello, America.

Bill O'Reilly is dedicating a whole hour to this tonight. He's going to take some different angles on it. I'm going to tell you — well, I'm going to start with two words and they're the only two words that I think adequately express how amazing this weekend was: Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for bringing your family and your children into what the media was telling you was going to be an awful, dangerous, event.

The amount of people who sacrificed their time and their money to take a trip to Washington, D.C., to stand with me, shoulder-to-shoulder, just to restore honor was nothing short of astounding. More importantly, the character of those who came: truly second to none.

This crowd was polite. It was calm. It was friendly. It was welcoming. It was helpful.

It was a hot day in the sun. I mean, it's August 28th in what used to be and still is, in many ways, a swamp. People were shoulder-to-shoulder, standing for hours. Some of them, because you can't sleep on the National Mall, some of them came as early as Wednesday to be able to have a place close to the stage. Some people were so far away that they actually couldn't hear very well.

This crowd, no matter what the media tells you, the crowd stretched almost a mile. And we will show you the pictures.

It's understandable if people were frustrated. But there weren't any instances there. There wasn't any complaining that I heard. We talked to the police, there wasn't — in a crowd this size, not one single arrest.

The random acts of kindness that we're hearing about are truly remarkable. I want to ask you a favor: If you experienced something remarkable, please tell us about it. Write to kindness@glennbeck.com. Tell us what you experienced.

After all of this time, of the tea parties and the people on the right being painted as racist and hatemongers, finally, the story is out and the truth is being told.

In the days leading up to the Restoring Honor event, I said, you should expect miracles. And there were several miracles — many, many miracles.

Anybody who was there knows the miracles or some of them that happened. One of the miracles that I found entertaining happened right at the very beginning. If all that ever happens at this event is that a bunch of people show up — well, that's neat and everything, but we failed. You have to pick up the miracle that happened within all of us. The flame is going to burn out if you don't pick up the flame and run.

We'll spend some time today talking about what happened. I want to show you first that — that miracle that happened at 10:59. There are several versions of this — or 9:59 — there were several versions of what was happening at 9:59 — do we have the videotape?

At 9:59, what happened was there was a flock of geese that ran. It was a flyover, if you will. Someone caught it on tape. Here's the flyover. This was happening just as the opening music was starting. We wanted to have a flyover, but you can't fly over in the District of Columbia. It was perfect coordination and perfect timing. Coincidence? Maybe. I think it was God's flyover.

It was not supposed to happen. We couldn't get a flyover. We couldn't even get anybody dressed in a military uniform to present the flag. We tried for almost a year. We couldn't get it done.

Thank God we had our flyover.

I said that this would be a non-political event. Here's another miracle: Somebody actually kept their word. I told you, if you were hoping to hear an election pep talk, you shouldn't come. I said, bring your entire family — this guy and his son were amazing. I said bring your family because there would be no anger, there'd be no hate, there'd be no racism at this event.

I said the message would be about restoring honor and turning to God.
I said the day would be about faith, hope and charity. I told you for a long time the day would be focused on challenging each and every individual so we can restore honor. That's the key to restoring our country, restoring ourselves first.

Those were the things this program focused on and promised leading up to the event. I also didn't tell you who was on the program, intentionally, because I didn't want them to go through the hell that I go through every day and others like Alveda King go through that is 10 times worse than what I go through. I kept it quiet and I warned the media: Don't say these things because you don't know.

But here's what the media told you to expect. NPR worried that it would spiral into a "pit of hatred." The Washington Post wondered if this was an event that would unify the Tea Party. They also said it would trigger "an exercise in self-aggrandizement on a Napoleonic scale." PBS reported that nothing would be said at this event that, quote, "That school children would be learning or reciting a generation from now."

New York Times headline read, "I Had a Nightmare," and called me the anti-King. Newsweek called me and the event the march of racial politics. And many feared the angry Tea Party people would turn violent.

MSNBC actually reported just as the program started that Michele Bachmann and Dick Armey were suddenly speaking:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MSNBC REPORTER: You know, we have plenty of people, as you mention,
set to speak. You have Sarah Palin today at about 10:40. Michele Bachmann, congressman from Minnesota, the Republican, also set to speak, a Tea Party favorite — as well as Dick Armey, also expected a little later today.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: No, no. Sarah Palin did. But how would they know that information? Because I didn't release any of the speakers, intentionally, to see how the media would cover it.

Well, now that the event is over, whose storyline was closest to the truth? Was it everyone in the media or this program? Was this an event that was a political rally aimed at elections and tea parties? Was it filled with hate? What actually happened?

No policies were discussed. No politicians were named. No elections were talked about. The event was completely apolitical. There was no anger. There was no hatred, violence. It'd be surprised if anyone even used a swear word.

Martin Luther King was honored, not disgraced. There were virtually no signs. There was a focus on God, faith, hope and charity.

You heard amazing stories about some of America's most brave and amazing people.

You heard prayers; people said prayers.

What you saw was a minimum of 500,000 people who never claimed that God was on their side. They wanted to change their lives so they could be on God's side.

So, how did people react? How did the media react after they found out the truth?

Well, let's start with the president. It'd be interesting to see what he had to say on half a million people gathering on the premise of God and honor. Here he is on NBC Sunday when asked for his reaction on 8/28 Restoring Honor event:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I have to say I did not watch the rally.

Given all those anxieties and given the fact that, you know, in none of these situations are you going to fix things overnight, it's not surprising that somebody like a Mr. Beck is able to stir up a certain portion of the country. That's true throughout our history.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: I have been told that no broadcaster in the history of America has ever done anything like this. I have also been told today that no single individual has ever called 500,000 people to the Mall. And they arrived — ever.

But he's not surprised. Of course, he wasn't even watching. This is the kind of thing that happens all the time throughout history, all throughout history, that these people like Glenn Beck or Mr. Beck show up.

Well, I didn't know exactly who he might be thinking of, but it's good that we have everyone's favorite reporter, Joe Klein. He took it a step further and explained:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOE KLEIN, TIME MAGAZINE: This guy is obviously a paranoid lunatic who is a great entertainer. And he is exploiting something that always happens in our country when the economy is bad and when we're at war.

During World War I, if people were caught speaking German in the street, other people would beat them up. During World War II, we interned the Japanese. And now, there — the combination of bad, bad economic times over the last couple of years and — you know, and the terrorism, has led to this wave that Glenn Beck and his puppet master Rupert Murdoch are exploiting.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: I'm actually beginning to feel bad or sad for some of these people. But, Joe, since you brought history in the mix, you're right. We did round up the Germans during World War I. And you were right, if you spoke out against the war, you'd be tossed in jail. And you were right, we did round up the Japanese. You left out the Germans and the Italians that we rounded up in World War II, but we put them in war deplacement camps.

That's nice. There is just one little fact, Joe, that you forget to point out. And that's — that's really critical to the history lesson. It's the "who" part of the rounding up process. Who was rounding people up?

In World War I, it was Woodrow Wilson. In World War II, it was FDR.
Both big government progressives. So yes, we did round people up, but it was never someone on the outside like me who did it. It was always big progressive government.

Now, here is The Huffington Post. I'm going to show you this because this shows you the contempt for the things that I think most Americans value. It's Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally. This is the quote: "The most ridiculous messages" in photos. "The most ridiculous messages" in photos. Here are the most ridiculous — go to the first. There it is: September 11th. This is ridiculous.

This is a quote from George Washington — ridiculous.

"Restoring Honor" — ridiculous.

This woman for some reason is ridiculous.

This man is ridiculous.

Someone with George Washington, the Constitution — ridiculous.

May I — may I ask, do you stand with The Huffington Post on those things being ridiculous? Why are they ridiculous?

Now, the reports of the crowd size. Let me show you perhaps the most iconic image from the event. This, I believe, was taken from the A.P. or by the A.P., and God bless them for doing it. It is absolutely stunning.

Remember — remember, just the reflecting pool alone, I told you last week, this is 200,000 people. There are people. You can see them, here and here and here. We have photos down both of these paths at GlennBeck.com.

There are people — look at them — throughout the trees. Plus here, this is the end of the block or the end of the reflecting pool. It goes across the street and the crowd picks up again. This is completely filled, all around the Lincoln Memorial, back to the Washington monument.

To be exact, the length from the base of the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument is eight/tenths of a mile. And it was almost completely filled with people.

So, here is the crowd size reporting: NBC says tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands.

Associated Press apparently didn't look too close at their own picture and said tens of thousands. I've seen lots of others echoing the A.P. at tens of thousands.

CNN wouldn't pick a number. They compared the task to counting the crowd, "it's like how many jelly beans are inside a huge jar," end quote.

CBS strangely put the number at 87,000. Well, that's a pretty specific number there. Well, are you sure it wasn't 93,412?

We'll never know the exact number. But anyone with eyes can see this crowd was in the hundreds of thousands. Traffic was clogged in D.C. after the event and before the event. Metro workers said they have never seen anything like it.

The lines at the Metro subway stretched two football fields. They had to wait hours in lines just to get on the subway to get to the event.

"Restoring Honor," which was the number one topic on Google trends for much of Saturday, "Glenn Beck rally" and "Sarah Palin" were also at the top of the Google searches hot list category throughout the day.

Over 100,000 people were streaming the event on the live — the Facebook event. It was carried on C-Span; I can't wait to see the numbers.

By our estimate, this event falls about the sixth largest all-time largest crowd at the Mall. That is tied with the inauguration of Ronald Reagan.

So, the media can diminish the crowd size all they want, but the images speak for themselves. Gee, who thought we should have many, many photographers and cameras? And who happened to have a ticket at 10:00 at the top of the Washington Monument and a photographer there so we could capture these things? Oh, I guess that would be us.

Fool us once and shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Of course, the press hasn't hesitated to give high estimates on Obama crowds. He's drawn some pretty huge crowds. After all, it's happened in history before, as he says. When there's trouble, somebody like this usually appears.

Here is a picture of 80,000 people in Denver. These numbers all taken by the press. Here is 200,000 people in Berlin. Here is 100,000 people in St. Louis.

By the way, we took this one, St. Louis, because the media happily settled on 100,000 people for that speech. Everyone agrees 100,000.

We knew the reports would — we knew they would underestimate 8/28's crowd and we knew the media wouldn't get the message. And they didn't.
And they didn't.

Tomorrow's program, we're going to show you how many, how many 100,000 St. Louis crowd areas can fit into at the area that we just showed you at the Mall.

I want to show you the lead stories — the lead stories in the newspaper are here. I'm grateful that this is all in the news. But I read all of these stories or much of the stories, and it would be nice if they reported on what we talked about. But all they reported on is things like it wasn't a Tea Party; it wasn't racist; it wasn't violent; it was peaceful.

Well, has anybody filed a story on what it was about? Did anybody bother to report on the Black Robe Regiment? We had 240 men and women of the cloth on stage, pastors, priests, rabbis, and yes, imams, linked arms. They were talking about the big principles of life.

We talked about — there they are as they were coming on — we talked about faith and God. Did anybody think that maybe we should, I don't know, report on that?

I issued a challenge: 40 days and 40 nights. It's a challenge based on the Declaration of Independence. Did anyone think that was worth noting?

Here's the story the press gave you in the end: This was a rally that was non-violent, not racist and not a Tea Party and 87,000 people showed up.

Yet, the media also is reporting that history was made. Well, how? Why?

I'm going to tell you something now that no one knows. On Saturday night, I woke my family up. It was 11:00 when I got the news that the Smithsonian had called. They want — they want items from the event preserved for the Smithsonian.

Well, gee, now, why would America's museum of history want something about a rally that had 87,000 people and just wasn't racist? Is that worthy of being in a museum or being held in archives?

The reason it's not reported is the media doesn't understand things like this. And the other reason is because those who do understand know that if it's explained and you understand what it really, really is, it could change the course of our country.

Michael Reagan Thanks for the Reminder, Glenn

Michael Reagan

Michael Reagan

Thanks for the Reminder, Glenn

Glenn Beck's remarkable rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday was a wake-up call for his beloved America. This nation, he reminded us, is and has been since its founding a nation under God. Failure to recognize our absolute dependence upon God, he said, has put this nation in peril.

His warning echoed that my father once delivered when he told Americans, "When we stop being a nation under God, we will be a nation gone under."

For a long time we have been slowly drifting away from that reality, acting as if our destiny were solely in our own hands -- it's as if we were saying to the Almighty, "Thanks for the ten suggestions, and such trivial admonitions as the Sermon on the Mount, but we'd rather do it our up-to-date modern way."

I don't need to remind you that doing it our way: slaughtering the innocent unborn by the tens of millions; now defying the integrity of marriage, that most ancient of institutions; allowing our government to be profligate not only with our own resources but those of generations to come has led us down the road to ruin for us and our children and our children's children.

We have allowed our government and our representatives in Congress to squander not only our financial resources but those of future generations of American so that we can enjoy all those wondrous benefits Washington offers us, now and allegedly free of charge.

We have replaced the old adage that God proposes, man disposes. Now it's solely man proposes. And what a mess we've made.

In his book, "The God that Did Not Fail" (Encounter Books), Robert Royal warns that the movement toward "progressive irreligion" encourages ignorance of religion's unparalleled importance in the development and maintenance of western culture.

Glenn echoed that explanation of our current condition.

Prior to the Glenn Beck rally Saturday, our newest deity, the all-knowing mass media, predicted that Beck would rant and rage about politics and the current administration and perhaps provoke violence on a frightening scale.

It never occurred to the atheistic media that Glenn's message would be about God's love and our solemn obligation to love one another even as we love ourselves.

Much to their astonishment, instead of dwelling on the political differences that divide is, Glenn beseeched us to acknowledge our absolute dependence upon the Divine will and our obligation to love God and our neighbor, no matter who he is.

A friend of mine complained to me the other day that when he went to confession, the priest told him that he was obliged to love his neighbors, all of them. When he almost jokingly asked if that meant he even had to love Barack Obama, the priest said an emphatic "yes."

Sometimes, he complained, God demands the impossible. The priest reminded him that with God's help, all things are possible.

That, in a nutshell, is what Glenn Beck was telling us last Saturday: Love of God and love of neighbor, not political rhetoric and dissension, is the sole solution to our national woes.

My Dad, Ronald Reagan, warned us that a nation that shuns God is on the road to ruin.

Thanks again for the reminder, Glenn.

Chuck Norris Obama: Muslim Missionary? (Part 3)

Chuck Norris

Chuck Norris

Obama: Muslim Missionary? (Part 3)

"I can't spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead," President Barack Obama told Brian Williams in an interview Sunday night on NBC's "Nightly News," reacting to the question of why a large percentage of Americans have serious doubts about his Christian faith.

In Part 1, I began to demonstrate how the president is using U.S. special envoy Rashad Hussain, his own presidential position and others in his administration to deepen and expand the partnership between the United States and Islam.

In Part 2, I detailed President Obama's real spiritual beliefs based upon a rare in-depth interview by a religious reporter for a major newspaper publication, including his beliefs about prayer, sin, heaven, the Bible and Jesus.

Now, in Part 3, I will demonstrate how President Obama categorically has been prejudicial in his treatment of Christianity versus Islam.

My question is: In a 2009 speech in Cairo, President Obama committed to "fight against negative stereotypes" of Islam "wherever they appear," so why doesn't he also consider it his responsibility to do that for Christianity, especially because the majority of Americans still profess affinity with Christendom and the White House insists Obama is "a committed Christian"?

In just the past few months, why didn't the president step forward and stand up publicly for any of the following Christians who had their First Amendment rights trampled upon by others, just as he did for Muslims who are attempting to build the ground zero mosque?

--Why doesn't the president stand up for the rights of Christian organizations, whose right to hire same-faith or same-mission-minded employees is protected under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the First Amendment but who are having to urge Congress to reject legislation that would prohibit them from hiring only fellow believers?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the rights of the North Carolina pastor who was fired from his duties as an honorary chaplain of the state General Assembly after he closed a prayer "in the name of Jesus"?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the rights of those in Utah who erected 14 memorial crosses on highways for state troopers killed in the line of duty but who were told by federal judges the crosses are to come down because they are unconstitutional?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the human rights of the Christian missionaries and medical team in Afghanistan, including six Americans, to practice medicine and their faith, even after they were murdered by Islamic extremists? Wouldn't other medical missionaries in Afghanistan appreciate Obama's defense more now than ever?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the four missionaries arrested at an Arab festival in Dearborn, Mich., just for exercising their freedom of speech and religion?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the rights of the Rev. Franklin Graham, who is the son of the Rev. Billy Graham and was disinvited from a Pentagon prayer service on the National Day of Prayer because of his "extremist" Christian views and values?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the rights of the Christian student who was booted from her graduate counseling program at a public university over her belief and conviction that homosexuality is morally wrong?

--Why didn't the president stand up for the three Christian evangelists who were arrested for sharing the gospel and singing hymns on a public sidewalk outside a mosque in Philadelphia?

--And mostly, why didn't the president stand up for the rights of the Greek Orthodox Church, one of whose churches was the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 attacks and whose members have been frustrated and fouled by New York officials, who virtually have turned their backs on the reconstruction of the church near ground zero?

Meanwhile the Obama administration's pro-Islamic mission marches on, as even The New York Times chronicled in its multi-page report "White House Quietly Courts Muslims in U.S."

Further proof just came again, when the State Department reported, under the guise of "Cultural Affairs" and "Cultural Preservation 2010 Awards," that it is giving away U.S. taxpayer funds to 63 foreign historical and cultural sites in 55 nations, including $50,000 for an Islamic monument in India, $76,000 for a 16th-century mosque in China, $67,000 for a mosque in Pakistan and $77,000 to restore minarets (tall slender towers attached to mosques) in Nigeria and Mauritania. (To be fair, it also is giving money to restore early Christian frescoes in Greece, 17th- and 18th-century church paintings in Peru, etc., too.) Should the State Department be funding any of these religious quests, especially when the U.S. is broke?

If a self-proclaimed non-Muslim president would fight repeatedly for Muslims' religious rights to the degree that our president has, don't you think "a committed Christian" president would fight at least once for any antagonistic oppression of Christian faith and practice? Yet on no occasion since taking office has President Obama stood up publicly for a Christian individual, group, church, act or event that was being opposed or oppressed by others.

Is it any surprise that a recent poll shows an increase in Jewish and Catholic citizens who are inclined to vote Republican in November?

All of Obama's pro-Islamic actions make me ponder the application of the verse in the Book of James that says, "Faith without works is dead."

Even more apropos might be Quran 4:76: "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah."

David Limbaugh Obama's Appalling Mistreatment of Israel

Obama's Appalling Mistreatment of Israel

As Israeli and Palestinian peace talks are scheduled to resume in Washington in a few days, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Palestinian recognition of Israel as the Jewish homeland is an essential condition for peace. Completely reasonable, yet don't keep your fingers crossed, especially with the Obama administration's attitude toward Israel.

In my new book, "Crimes Against Liberty" (I know, another shameless plug, but you'd do the same in my position), I dedicate an entire chapter to detailing the Obama administration's horrendous and unprecedented mistreatment of Israel. Can you believe we're even having a discussion about Israel's right to the land six-plus decades and numerous wars after the modern Israeli state was restored to the Jews?

It's bad enough when misfit countries oppose Israel's right to existence and always demonize Israel while downplaying the Palestinians' misdeeds, but it's shocking and disturbing when the president of the United States abuses our greatest ally in the Mideast.

It's mystifying to me that so many Jewish people in America have been so tolerant of Obama's behavior toward Israel, almost as if in denial, but what more evidence do we need?

During the campaign, it was widely suspected that Obama had strong ties with pro-Palestinian groups, not to mention his membership in the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church -- one that is known for its sympathy for the causes of certain terrorist organizations and the Palestinian position.

The Los Angeles Times reportedly possessed and protected a damning video of Obama toasting Rashid Khalidi, a former PLO operative and an outspoken Israel critic who, after the 9/11 attacks, referred to the media's "hysteria about suicide bombers."

Obama's official campaign website, Organizing for America, permitted the posting of a blog entry titled "How the Jewish Lobby Works." Though the post was eventually removed, it's suspicious that someone with posting privileges had these virulently anti-Semitic views. The post said: "No lobby is feared more or catered to by politicians than the Jewish Lobby. If a politician does not play ball with the Jewish Lobby, he will not get elected, or re-elected, and he will either be smeared or ignored by the Jewish-owned major media." NewsBusters cited numerous other links to similar anti-Jewish posts on the website, showing this was not an isolated event. How does one explain away that kind of climate in the bowels of the administration?

Once elected, Obama appointed James Jones as his national security adviser, a man The Lid said is "not known as a friend of the Jewish State." Jones assembled a team that reportedly intended to be tougher and "impose a solution on" Israel. Early in his term, Obama pledged more than $900 million to rebuild Gaza and to shore up the Palestinian Authority. The rationale was to strengthen Palestinian moderates, but many experts warned that much of this money could get into the hands of Hamas and other terrorist organizations.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gratuitously denounced Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza while ignoring the many Palestinian sins against Israel. The administration also demanded that Israel negotiate with Syria -- a primary sponsor of Hezbollah -- just two days after Syrian foreign minister Walid Mueller praised a speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calling Israel "the most cruel and repressive racist regime."

The administration has also applied fierce pressure on Israel to acquiesce on the matter of the creation of a Palestinian state, even to the point of conditioning our efforts to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions on that Israeli concession. Obama directed our return to the U.N. Human Rights Council, which the Bush administration had left nine months before because the council had incessantly condemned Israel while ignoring the abuses of Mideast dictatorships. Obama snubbed Netanyahu and announced he would discontinue the established practice of hosting Israeli prime ministers when they are in Washington.

Obama's Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, adopted the controversial 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which called for Israel to withdraw from east Jerusalem, the entire West Bank and Golan Heights and also for Israel to accept the influx of millions of foreign Arabs as Israeli citizens as part of the "right of return." Mideast expert Caroline Glick says this would mean "Israel would effectively cease to be a Jewish state."

Vice President Biden engaged in a public temper tantrum and harshly "condemned" Israel for not bowing to the administration's demands that it discontinue its settlements in east Jerusalem. Rarely does the United States publicly condemn an ally, especially in such harsh terms.

We're just scratching the surface, but surely you get the picture. There is, however, one gratifying development in this ongoing saga. Finally, some Jewish Americans have had enough and are speaking up. As I chronicle in the book, former New York Mayor Ed Koch wrote two scathing editorials against Obama's appalling policies and called out his fellow Jews to speak up against them. Amazingly, Obama's stalwart supporter Sen. Chuck Schumer finally joined Koch in pushing back. Others, not just American Jews, need to wake up.

Thomas Sowell The Mosque Controversy

Thomas Sowell

Thomas Sowell

The Mosque Controversy

The proposed mosque near where the World Trade Center was attacked and destroyed, along with thousands of American lives, would be a 15-story middle finger to America.

It takes a high IQ to evade the obvious, so it is not surprising that the intelligentsia are out in force, decrying those who criticize this calculated insult.

What may surprise some people is that the American taxpayer is currently financing a trip to the Middle East by the imam who is pushing this project, so that he can raise the money to build it. The State Department is subsidizing his travel.

The big talking point is that this is an issue about "religious freedom" and that Muslims have a "right" to build a mosque where they choose. But those who oppose this project are not claiming that there is no legal right to build a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center.

If anybody did, it would be a matter for the courts to decide -- and they would undoubtedly say that it is not illegal to build a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center attack.

The intelligentsia and others who are wrapping themselves in the Constitution are fighting a phony war against a straw man. Why create a false issue, except to evade the real issue?

Our betters are telling us that we need to be more "tolerant" and more "sensitive" to the feelings of Muslims. But if we are supposed to be sensitive to Muslims, why are Muslims not supposed to be sensitive to the feelings of millions of Americans, for whom 9/11 was the biggest national trauma since Pearl Harbor?

It would not be illegal for Japanese Americans to build a massive shinto shrine next to Pearl Harbor. But, in all these years, they have never sought to do it.

When Catholic authorities in Poland were planning to build an institution for nuns, years ago, and someone pointed out that it would be near the site of a concentration camp that carried out genocide, the Pope intervened to stop it.

He didn't say that the Catholic Church had a legal right to build there, as it undoubtedly did. Instead, he respected the painful feelings of other people. And he certainly did not denounce those who called attention to the concentration camp.

There is no question that Muslims have a right to build a mosque where they chose to. The real question is why they chose that particular location, in a country that covers more than 3 million square miles.

If we all did everything that we have a legal right to do, we could not even survive as individuals, much less as a society. So the question is whether those who are planning a Ground Zero mosque want to be part of American society or just to see how much they can get away with in American society?

Can anyone in his right mind believe that this was intended to show solidarity with Americans, rather than solidarity with those who attacked America? Does anyone imagine that the Middle East nations, including Iran, from whom financial contributions will be solicited, want to promote reconciliation between Americans and Muslims?

That the President of the United States has joined the chorus of those calling the Ground Zero mosque a religious freedom issue tells us a lot about the moral dry rot that is undermining this country from within.

In this, as in other things, Barack Obama is not so much the cause of our decline but the culmination of it. He had many predecessors and many contemporaries who represent the same mindset and the same malaise.

There are people for whom moral preening has become a way of life. They are out in force denouncing critics of the Ground Zero mosque.

There are others for whom a citizen of the world affectation puts them one-up on those of us who are grateful to be Americans, and to enjoy a freedom that is all too rare in other countries around the world, even at this late date in human history.

They think the United States is somehow on trial, and needs to prove itself to others by bending over backwards. But bending over backwards does not win friends. It loses respect, including self-respect.

Introducing The Blaze

August 30, 2010 - 18:59 ET

If you are like me, watching the news or reading the paper can be an exercise in exasperation. It's so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see.

Too many important stories are overlooked. And too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas. Not that you've ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice.

But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website -- The Blaze. And we moved fast. We built the team and the site in just two months.

We want this to be a place where you can find breaking news, original reporting, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most.

The Blaze will be about current news -- and more. It's not just politics and policy. It's looking for insight wherever we find it. We'll examine our culture, deal with matters of faith and family, and we won't be afraid of a history lesson.

The image of flame is a powerful. It has long stood for a burning truth. A truth that is not consumed. The Blaze will pursue truth. Of course we will make mistakes. Honest mistakes. And we'll be quick with corrections. We intend to earn your trust and keep it day in and day out with hard work and a lot of transparency.

And don't expect everything to be deadly serious. Boring is bad. We intend to have plenty of fun.

We've put together a solid team of writers and reporters. I intend to keep them busy by sending a zillion story ideas at all hours.

We're also counting on you. Your comments. Your feedback. Your tips! You will help us build and shape The Blaze.

Thank you in advance.

Glenn Beck

'Glenn Beck': Divine Destiny and the Restoring Honor Rally

Monday, August 30, 2010

This is a rush transcript from "Glenn Beck," August 27, 2010. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GLENN BECK, HOST: We are less than 24 hours away from standing in front of that great building, the Lincoln Memorial, tomorrow.

Hello, America.

I'm going to give you a little preview of something that's going to happen — kind of — at the Kennedy Center tonight. They're now at the Kennedy Center getting ready. Those who will join me on stage, but we'll talk a little bit about it tonight.

On this program, we've talked about the Black Robe Brigade before. These were preachers back in colonial America. They were called that because they wore black robes. That's what they wore while they were preaching.

The British didn't really like the preachers in America. In fact, the British placed the entire blame for the American Revolution on the preachers. They said if it wasn't for the preachers, the people in America would be one big happy British family.

So, when they came over to America, they started going after the churches and the preachers and they burned them down to the ground from New York to New Jersey to Virginia — and that's if you were lucky. Other churches were burned down with people boarded inside. The preachers — if you were caught, you were most likely killed if you were a preacher.

Now why? Why would the British blame the preachers for the American Revolution? What was it that they were saying that made them hate them so much? What was it that they were doing that was so bad for the king?

Well, they were preaching no king, but Jesus. No king, but God — the idea that your rights came from him and that all men were created equal and that people should have the right to live free and have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they were sons and daughters of God and that's who gave them the right — no king.

All of these things came from the pulpit before they came out of the mouth of Adams, or Jefferson, or Washington, or Franklin. It came from preachers first. And the British needed to stomp that out. So, first, they intimidated — the powerful king intimidated. And then, eventually, they just killed.

The words in our founding documents, many of them came from either the Bible or they came from the pulpit. The Bible, I have to tell you, I walked in today and I'm not going to rat this person out. But this is actually from a journalist's desk here at Fox — Bible readers. And it was open.

I mean, I walked in. It stopped me in mid-sentence. I walked in and I was like, hey — there's a Bible on your desk and it's open. When is the last time you saw that?

You know why things are so screwed up today? Because you might have one but you would never have it on your desk. You might have one, but when is the last time you opened it?

A lot of Americans have lost sight of that. And certainly, our country doesn't focus on the Bible anymore. Our neighbors in Canada think the Bible is hate speech now, believe it or not.

It wasn't always that way. In fact, this is kind of a new recent trend. The Founders relied on the Bible. Do you know that — do you know that more than 30 times all the other books, all the other things they could have read, more than 30 times the Book of Deuteronomy over everything else. That's what the Founders used.

Book of Deuteronomy, in case you haven't read it for a while, that's kind of the Laws of Moses stuff. Jefferson and Adams wrote to each other, they were famous pen pals. They wrote to each other late in life because they really hated each other in the middle of their life. One of the things they talked about, it's about 1820, was — one of them wrote and said, you know what we've done here? And said, yes, it's a miracle. He said, yes, I know but it's going to fail. And other one wrote back, yes, I know it's going to fail. Why are you such a fat pessimist? He said, I trust in the people.

And they weren't satisfied with what the system they created but they did their best. They said we should have put more Deuteronomy in there, should have gotten more into the framework. We tried, we tried!

When they started talking about the failure of the country, they said it's OK, though. It's OK, because when it fails, the people will remember what we were trying to do. And they'll do it right. Wow!

By the way, if that hasn't hit you yet, the country is failing. We're supposed to figure out what it was they were trying to do. It's up to you to do your homework. It's up to you to read history. It's up to you to read their blueprint in life.

What was their blueprint? Moses was their blueprint. Moses was such an important figure to the Founders. His images were everywhere. They wanted to make the image of the seal of America.

There it is. There it is. "Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God." Look at that. That's the pillar of fire. Can you put it back up? There's the pillar of fire. And you've got the pharaoh being beaten back. You have Moses and the Ten Commandments. I mean, if that were the seal, I think we would have probably avoided a lot of trouble. You know what I'm saying?

Moses couldn't do it on his own and neither could the Founders. Neither can you.

Moses, I got to tell you, I'd be hacked off — I mean this. If I were Moses and God said from the bush, "Pick up the stick," you're sending me with a stick? That's it? You got all the — you know, cool stuff you can do with lightning but you're giving me a stick?

Yes. Yes. Trust in God. And the pillar of fire and the cloud.

We are lost. We are lost. We can't see very far in front of us, because we've got a little flashlight or better yet, sometimes I use my iPad to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, to find my way, I just turn it on, I'm using my iPad to lead — that's the kind of light we've got.

God's light is not showing us this path. It's showing us where we're headed. It's a lighthouse, guiding the ship. And the lighthouse is on solid rock.

That's what we want to talk tonight about and I have a few great people with me to do it.

David Barton, first guest, founder and president of WallBuilders. He's also the author of "Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black and White."

And I have to say this about my good friend David Barton. David has been getting so much heat because he is standing with me. And I can't tell you how much I respect this man. And how much I think he is a true American hero.

DAVID BARTON, PRESIDENT, WALLBUILDERS: It's mutual.

BECK: And God bless him.

And also another American icon and hero, Dr. Charles L. Jackson. He is the pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

And you have a few stories to tell us from the past and also where we're headed today. We spoke a couple of days ago on light and God's light.

And Dr. Richard Lee, senior pastor of the First Redeeming Church in Cumming, Georgia, and editor of the book, "The American Patriot's Bible: The Word of God and the Shaping of America" — which I have to tell you, I have a copy on my desk at home and I have a copy on my desk at my office. This should be in every person's home.

And Dr. Thomas Mullins — he's a senior pastor of the Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. And good friend of mine as well.

DR. THOMAS MULLINS, CHRIST FELLOW CHURCH: Great to be with you, Glenn.

BECK: Good to be with you.

OK. Let's start with — let's start with the light concept. And I want to really kind of go to you, Pastor, because you talk to me. I do this thing online at 7:05 in the morning. We were having prayer meetings every morning, myself in my office, and decided to let people in on it and they can go online and just listen in.

You led one the other day and you talked a little bit about the light of God.

PASTOR C.L. JACKSON, PLEASANT GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH: Well, when you mention Moses and the five books of the Bible, the first book is Genesis where the earth is under darkness and God spoke and said, "Let there be light." But the spirit of God moved, covered the darkness and the whole Earth. That's what Moses said. And he showed us that without that light, you're under total darkness.

And that's why when you talk about the government, when you talk about the governor, when you talk about any person in politics, if he is not under the light, he's under darkness.

So, what I was telling you in my little summary — I saw you, I saw Dave Barton, and us, but I saw you as a person that God can use to show the whole world about the darkness and the light. And that's what you've doing — preaching, teaching.

Now, when you teach, you teach from the outside. But when you learn, the Holy Spirit learn you are on the inside. The word says, "Let there be light." Light came. Now push back darkness. Push back darkness.

And from that time, to this day, when God got in your mind, in your heart, to talk about that light coming back, talk about let that light so shine. I don't care if you are the president, if you are the governor, if you are senator, if darkness have you under it, then everything you do is filled with darkness.

BECK: I see the — because I think that kind goes to the idea of, that there is — we're not dealing — we're not battling against flesh and blood.

JACKSON: No, no.

BECK: Right.

JACKSON: Not battling with flesh and blood. I don't want to cut you off, because you're the king. I don't want to do that.

But darkness is the flush. See, in the Old Testament, God showed us, teach us, but in the New Testament, he does it for us. Everywhere I go, darkness, evil is with me. When you start talking about black liberated theology — the flush.

BECK: Can we jump off there? Can I just do a real quick — because there was a story in the "Christian Science Monitor" taking me apart saying that, oh, here's a new one. The president is suddenly, you know, for black liberation theology —

Well, first of all, that's what Jeremiah's church — Jeremiah Wright's church is. I mean, you listen to it, it's collective salvation. The president has given four speeches where he has taught collective salvation over personal salvation and liberation theology.

Am I the only one that doesn't believe in collective salvation? That that is — that is the antithesis to the Jesus message?

(CROSSTALK)

PASTOR RICHARD LEE, FIRST REDEEMER CHURCH: Yes, it's the antithesis. You know, Christ deals with individuals. Even John Chapter 3, which is a dynamic chapter on how we come to know God through Jesus Christ, he is dealing with a man, Nicodemus. Jesus is — we call him the personal savior.

This idea of collected salvation is basically an idea that is taking God's word, which is clear and plain, Glenn, and is twisting it for personal use and personal gain. That's all it is: personal gain.

BECK: Well, it started this — I mean, this whole liberation theology, this was Marxist in South America. I mean, they couldn't get in the government because the church is so strong, so they had to pervert it, and pervert the Catholic — ask the Catholics about it. They know exactly what it is. I mean, that's why the Pope says it's evil — he said it's demonic, not divine.

JACKSON: That's darkness, that's evil. It's inhuman.

So, when God comes and my preacher friends and my colleagues, David, you know, the preacher said to Jesus and this is literally, you planted this morning wheat. And if you stir the wheat that he planted, his word in their Jewish nation. He said, but I got up this morning and I saw tares. He said so, so he said but you didn't plant tares.

That's darkness. So he thought, I'll go out and destroy it. And so he said, no, I destroyed when I come. Nobody can move.

Why? Because the outer man is under darkness. And the inner man, the wheat under the light.

BECK: OK. So if we have — if we have this, because I — I would express this as natural man is an enemy of God.

JACKSON: It is.

BECK: Yes, natural man is the enemy of God. So, how do we get — let's come to the kind of the Founders, because they knew this.

And George Whitefield comes and says, my gosh, you're going astray, and he starts to put it together and people start to wake up. So, how is it, first — because I only have a minute — quickly tell what Whitefield saw and what he diagnosed as the problem that led to his preaching here?

BARTON: Yes, what he saw in America was a lot of separate groups. And that's a problem, because the gospel when it came, raised individuals up. That's what ticked the British off because we were suddenly all individuals. We had been subjects and groups before.

He saw that and he brought the individual message. And that's why the Declaration and the Constitution don't deal with groups, they deal with individuals.

That's what ticked the British off.

And so, as Whitefield preaches, what he did was elevate people individually where they were, brought them out. He's the first one to really start elevating blacks in America in a very serious way. That's where the abolition movement got started. It was the elevation of the individual.

And that's why collective salvation has always been wrong from the American viewpoint because that biblical — that's France. I mean, look at Malthus of France, brotherhood. No, we're individuals over here. They are groups over there.

We don't have groups, we have individuals. And that's why every man is created with inalienable rights. That came from the pulpit. That's in the Constitution and the Declaration, because of that.

BECK: Well, let me — let me go there and then we come back, I want to go there — what are the individual rights and how do you — how do you guys as preachers preach that from the pulpit and turn it — without turning it in to politics?

Glenn Beck 8/28 rally: It's a matter of honor

Dr. Alveda King – the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., – explains why she's speaking at the Glenn Beck 8/28 rally in Washington this Saturday.

New York

In front of the Lincoln Memorial in June, a group of students caught up in a moment of spontaneous patriotism broke into song. But the US Park Police were quick to shush the members of the Young America's Foundation, saying singing is not allowed at the memorial. The song that was stifled? "The Star-Spangled Banner."

So much for freedom of speech.

At the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta this July, an official at the memorial to one of the greatest civil rights leaders in the world – my Uncle Martin – removed a bullhorn from the hands of Father Frank Pavone, an internationally recognized leader of the pro-life movement. We were a group more than 100 strong, in Atlanta to declare that abortion is the greatest violation of civil rights in our day. We brought a wreath to lay at Uncle Martin's grave while we prayed, but due to a King Center official's barricade at the gravesite, we weren't allowed. The National Park Service said that would constitute a demonstration.

So much for freedom of assembly.

Symbols of liberty

Americans are hungry to reclaim the symbols of our liberty, hard won by an unlikely group of outnumbered, outgunned, underfunded patriots determined not to live in servitude to the British Empire. If we want to sing the national anthem at a memorial to the man who led this fledgling nation out of slavery, and made my people free, we should be able to send our voices soaring to the heavens.

Glenn Beck's "Rally to Restore Honor" this Saturday will give us that chance, and that's why I feel it's important for me to be there.

Before the words were out of Mr. Beck's mouth announcing the Aug. 28 rally, The New York Times noted that it would be at the same place and 47 years to the day since my Uncle Martin gave his "I Have a Dream Speech." When asked why he chose that date in particular, Beck said he had not realized its significance, but in thinking about it, he saw it is an auspicious day to rally for the honor of the American people. He has said, and he's right, that Martin Luther King didn't speak only for African-Americans. He spoke for all Americans, and his words still ring true.

Other groups are planning rallies and demonstrations in Washington that day, and freedom of speech gives them the right to do so – and to criticize me for not jumping on their bandwagon. But Uncle Martin's legacy is big enough to go around.

A rally about character, not politics

Though critics see it as partisan, Beck's rally is not a political event, per se. Instead, it is designed to be a refreshing exercise of freedom of speech.

The rally will be a celebration of who we are as a nation and a chance to stop for a moment, reflect, reorganize, and re-energize. It's a chance to think about character; both our character as a nation and our character as individuals.

Delineating ourselves as red state or blue, liberal or conservative, minority or majority, we have not quite reached the day when men and women are "judged not by the color of their skin but on the content of their character." We are still marching toward that day. As Uncle Martin said, "we cannot turn back."

The rally will also give America another chance to honor and thank the men and women in our armed forces for the dangers they face every day in our stead. Unless you have a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan, it's too easy to forget that tens of thousands of Americans are far from the comforts of home, are directly in harm's way, facing an enemy who hates us precisely because we are free. And coming just days before the ninth anniversary of 9/11, the day that roused us from our complacency, we could use another wakeup call, one of our own devising.

When I join Beck and all gathered at the Lincoln Memorial this weekend, I will talk about my Uncle Martin and the America he envisioned. I will talk about honor and character and sacrifice. I will be joined by those who represent the diversity of the human race.

On Saturday, Uncle Martin's dream of personhood and human dignity will resound across America. And the Park Police should consider themselves forewarned: As we stand in the symbolic shadow of the great American who signed the Emancipation Proclamation, we just might sing.
