Obama's Narcissism a Threat to National Security David Limbaugh | Sep 30, 2014

David Limbaugh

We mention President Obama's narcissism not as an exercise in name-calling but because it continues to be relevant to how he conducts himself in office, and it's not pretty.

This undeniable character trait was on full display in his interview with Steve Kroft of "60 Minutes," in the sense that he simply cannot entertain the possibility, much less -- infinitely less -- admit the possibility that he has made a mistake or exercised poor judgment.

If anything remotely positive happens on his watch, he presumes to take full credit for it -- way more than the normal opportunistic politician. With the killing of Osama bin Laden, for example, Obama boasts as if the raid were his initial idea and he delivered the kill shot. Most people in his position would play down their role in such an event and give credit to our special forces personnel who made it happen.

But when things are going poorly, Obama either candy-coats the reality or pretends he's an outsider powerless to do anything but complain about it. No president has ever been so committed to eschewing accountability.

News outlets are reporting that Obama acknowledged that his administration was surprised by the strength of the Islamic State, sort of. He lays the blame for any such underestimates at the feet of Jim Clapper, his director of intelligence. Isn't Clapper in the administration? It's as if Obama is every bit as mystified by Clapper's alleged oversight as the rest of us and as if he has no culpability for it whatsoever.

But it's even worse than that. For the truth is that this wasn't some kind of mistake in intelligence. Our intelligence services were fully aware of the strength and danger the Islamic State posed months and months ago and were aware of its aggressive pursuit of territorial expansion. It's not that we underestimated the Islamic State; it's that we overtly ignored it or that Obama was literally out to lunch -- or on the golf course.

Journalist Eli Lake reported that one former senior Pentagon official was flabbergasted in watching Obama's "60 Minutes" performance. "Either the president doesn't read the intelligence he's getting or he's bulls----ing," said the official.

Liberals were relentless in accusing President George W. Bush of lying about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction leading up to our attack on Iraq, even though he was reasonably relying on the best intelligence estimates from our own intelligence services and those of most other nations. He believed that Saddam Hussein had these weapons based on intelligence and on Saddam's behavior. Bush acted on that intelligence, for which he has been called a liar by egregious liars.

Obama, by contrast, had actionable intelligence and didn't act and is now acting as though he was personally unaware of it. Well, if his director of intelligence had that information, is it even conceivable he wouldn't have passed it on to Obama? Only if he knew Obama wouldn't care or wouldn't act on it in any event.

So if Clapper knew of the nature and extent of the Islamic State threat and didn't pass it on to Obama because he knew he wouldn't act on it, that's Obama's fault. If he knew and didn't pass it on for some other reason, that's Obama's fault for having such a knucklehead in such a critically important position affecting our national security. If Obama now knows that Clapper knew and didn't pass this information on to him, he should either resign himself (for creating the impression that he didn't want to know about such matters) or fire Clapper for not telling him. You feel me? It's Obama's fault any way you look at it.

I suspect that Clapper either didn't report to Obama because he knew Obama didn't want to hear it or did report to him but he didn't read it or he read it but refused to even consider acting on it because to do so would have contradicted his firmly held position that we had to remove ourselves entirely from Iraq. Obama is continuing in this stubbornly irresponsible posture today, even if he has reluctantly allowed airstrikes, because he has announced that he will not even consider ground forces in that area -- no matter how dramatically the Islamic State threatens our national security and that of our allies.

Obama's narcissism is a clear and present danger to the security interests of the United States for a host of reasons. He refuses to accept accountability for his decisions or failed policies and thus won't change course when reality proves him wrong. He won't realistically assess threats when they contradict his worldview-driven perceptions. And he won't take action if by doing so he would be tacitly admitting he was wrong before.

I suspect that even Democratic Party leaders and those in his administration who have the sense to grasp the reality of the threat to world stability posed by radical Islamists are shaking their heads in private over the bizarre, surreal character who leads their party but refuses to lead the United States of America.

Supreme Court Justice Eric Holder? Chuck Norris | Sep 30, 2014

Chuck Norris

After 5 1/2 bumpy years of controversial service, the besieged but bolstered attorney general, Eric Holder, resigned. But is this close friend and confidant of President Barack Obama's really stepping down for some benign reason at a critical time for our country, or is there a sinister and strategic plan behind it all?

First, it's far more than a coincidence that the United States' chief lawyer is leaving office with more unanswered questions about crucial life-and-death national dilemmas than any previous attorney general. Though most have been accused of sitting on issues, none has been so assailed as Holder for personally stonewalling investigations, covering up government involvement and refusing to deal with politically explosive controversies. Holder has not prosecuted such monumental and rights-infringing crimes as the Fast and Furious debacle; the Benghazi, Libya, tragedy; National Security Agency wiretappings; press infringements; drone attacks on U.S. citizens; and the Internal Revenue Service scandal.

The Bronx, New York-born 63-year-old Holder proudly boasted that he had "taken steps to protect the environment," taken swift action in Ferguson, Missouri, and even opened a broad probe into the police department in Ferguson. However, he -- like our president and even Secretary of State John Kerry -- hasn't said a single word over the past six months about Marine reservist Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi's being wrongly imprisoned in Mexico.

Sadly, it has been recently reported that Tahmooressi, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, is "highly despondent" because of the drastic deterioration of his mental health. And still, Holder refuses to speak up on behalf of this suffering, imprisoned American patriot.

Can you say resignation of denial and avoidance?

If Obama invoked executive privilege when Holder sat before Congress to protect him from his role in Fast and Furious, who's to say he isn't protecting him again -- or vice versa -- through Holder's resignation? What better way to avoid the line of fire than to move completely out of the way? And what if Obama and Holder are not only protecting themselves from some past public sin through his resignation but also prepping Holder for some future position by his absence from the public stage?

That's exactly what Rush Limbaugh proposed this past week. He explained the scary scenario this way:

"After you perform your six years of government service, you then retire to the private sector and get paid off for it. People hire you who are grateful for what you did, or you go back to your law firm, where you are a rainmaker, don't even have to do any work.

"They put your name on the letterhead, on the door, and you attract clients and get a percentage of what walks in the door. There is any number of ways this can happen. But there's also another possibility regarding Eric Holder. I just want you to prepare yourself. It may happen. We still have two years to go.

"There may be a Supreme Court vacancy, and I can see Barack Obama nominating Eric Holder to fill it, and it would be much easier for Eric Holder to make the jump from private-sector law firm rainmaker after six years at (the Department of Justice) to the Supreme Court than from DOJ straight to the Supreme Court. I don't know how much that would matter, but don't rule any of that out. I don't think there's any scandal. I don't think it's Fast and Furious. I don't think he's worried about the Republicans investigating anything if they win the Senate."

It is worth noting that Rahm Emanuel resigned as Obama's chief of staff two years before the end of the president's first term in order to attain the post of mayor of Chicago -- a resignation that Obama labeled as "bittersweet," which he also did with Holder's.

Hillary Clinton was next, with her resignation as secretary of state, which most people think was in order to run for president in 2016.

Now, two years before the end of the president's second term, could Obama and Holder's scope be set on SCOTUS? Given they are the kings of corrupt calculated chess moves, I believe the odds are incredibly high.

Having finished their insider dirty work, this trinity of terror (Emanuel, Clinton and Holder) is being sent out like apostles onto the mission field to infuse Obama's Cabinet's secular progressive agenda into the deepest roots of the land.

Liberal legacy and progressive perpetuity is the name of their game and their master plan.

Next week, I will give even more evidence of this master plan and explain exactly how and when a SCOTUS seat replacement would occur.

Random Thoughts Thomas Sowell | Sep 30, 2014

Thomas Sowell
Random thoughts on the passing scene:

What a non-judgmental society amounts to is that common decency is optional -- which means that decency is likely to become less common.

The biggest issue in this fall's election is whether the Obama administration will end when Barack Obama leaves the White House or whether it will continue on, by appointing federal judges with lifetime appointments who share President Obama's contempt for the Constitution. Whether such judges will be confirmed by the Senate depends on whether the Senate continues to be controlled by Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Why in the world would any sane American go to North Korea and put themselves at the mercy of a crackpot dictator?

Since Illinois enacted a law permitting more people to carry concealed firearms, more than 65,000 people got permits to do so. Rates of robbery, burglary and motor vehicle thefts have dropped significantly, and the murder rate has fallen to a level not seen in more than half a century. If only the gun control fanatics would pay some attention to facts, a lot of lives could be saved.

If you took all the mumbo-jumbo out of our educational institutions, how much would be left? Students could finish their education years earlier and end up knowing a lot more than they know now.

Why are Americans -- and the Western world in general -- falling all over ourselves stifling our own self-expression to appease people who chose to immigrate here, and are now demanding the suppression of anything they don't like, such as public expressions of Christianity or displays of the American flag?

Someone should write a history of political rhetoric, if only to put us on our guard against being deceived into disasters. The First World War, for example, was said to be a war "to make the world safe for democracy." What it actually led to was the replacement of despotic dynasties by totalitarian dictatorships that were far worse, including far more murderous.

Professor Sterling Brown remains as much a hero to me in my old age as he was when I was a freshman at Howard University. He wrote bitterly eloquent attacks on racism -- and yet, when I was preparing to go off to Harvard, he said to me, "Don't come back here and tell me you didn't make it 'cause white folks were mean."

The fatal weakness of most clever people is that they don't know when to stop being clever. The past cleverness of President Obama is finally starting to catch up with him.

Why Republicans would bring up the subject of immigration during an election year is beyond me. Yet Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner seems drawn to the subject like a moth to a flame.

Who says the Obama administration is not transparent? They are constantly telling our enemies overseas when it will pull out our troops and where we will not put boots on the ground.

Heartening as it has been to see Derek Jeter get farewell honors during his last season, as with Mariano Rivera last season, it is also a melancholy thought that we may not see their like again -- in their personal dignity and class, as well as their performance on the field. They are throwbacks to an earlier time, in a sports world of spoiled brat showoffs today.

I must have heard the word "diversity" proclaimed in ringing tones as a great benefit to society at least a thousand times -- and probably closer to a million -- without even once hearing a speck of evidence provided, or even suggested as a way to test whether that is true or false.

Attorney General Eric Holder has picked the perfect time to resign, in terms of his own self-interest. He will have two years in which to cash in with lucrative fees on the lecture circuit and to make a big-bucks book deal. If he waited until the end of the Obama administration, a former Attorney General would be eclipsed in both respects by a former President of the United States, thereby reducing the demand for Holder.

With the momentous consequences of control of the Senate at stake in this fall's election, anyone who risks the outcome by running as a third party candidate should not only be voted against this year but remembered for such irresponsibility in future years.

Making Sense Michael Reagan | Sep 26, 2014

Michael Reagan

"God bless you, and God bless the Homeland."

It won't surprise me if that's how a future President closes one of his "State of the Union " addresses.

The un-American term "the homeland" is taking over America.

Everywhere I turn it's being used to replace the words "country" or "nation" or "the United States."

All the media have accepted the phrase. It's all over CNN, FOX, MSNBC. I hear it on NPR.

It's in the news pages and headlines of the Washington Examiner, theWashington Post and the Weekly Standard.

"The homeland" is a bipartisan insult to America.

It's being used by liberals, conservatives, politicians, pundits, the White House, government mouthpieces and Middle East military experts who otherwise wouldn't agree on what direction the sun sets.

President Obama and Republican hawk Peter King both throw around "the homeland."

Democrat Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado recently said he didn't think ISIS was "an immediate threat to the homeland."

Dan Senor, a Bush II neocon, dropped the H-word on "Morning Joe" Wednesday morning during his pitch for putting boots on the ground to defeat ISIS.

How did defending against additional terrorist attacks after 9/11 change from defending "the United States of America" to defending "the homeland"?

"The Homeland" - it'll soon be capitalized - sounds like one of those phony words George Orwell invented for his novel "1984."

The Merriam Webster dictionary gives away its foreign origins, defining it as:

"Homeland: 1. native land: FATHERLAND. 2. a state or area set aside to be a state for a people of a particular national, cultural, or racial origin."

The great wordsmith Peggy Noonan tried to warn us off using "homeland" back in 2002.

In her Wall Street Journal column urging the Bush administration to come up with a different name for the Department of Homeland Security, she nailed it:

"'Homeland' isn't really an American word, it's not something we used to say or say now. It has a vaguely Teutonic ring -- Ve must help ze Fuehrer protect ze Homeland! -- and Republicans must always be on guard against sounding Teutonic."

That must explain why every time I hear the words "the homeland" I have the strange urge to give a Hitler salute.

"Homeland" - as well as its Soviet cousin, "The Motherland" -- is not a word fit for use by truly patriotic Americans.

As Noonan wrote, "the essence of American patriotism is a felt and spoken love for and fidelity to the ideas and ideals our country represents and was invented to advance -- freedom, equality, pluralism. 'We hold these truths...'

"The word 'homeland' suggests another kind of patriotism -- a vaguely European sort. 'We have the best Alps, the most elegant language; we make the best cheese, had the bravest generals.' "

Noonan knew immediately the USA was headed down the wrong road with the word "homeland."

So did a few others, including the lefty Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo.

In 2002 he said the phrase "the homeland" had "a deep blood and soil tinge to it which is distinctly Germanic, more than a touch un-American, and a little creepy."

"The homeland" has always had a totalitarian ring.

It's why FDR didn't use it during World War II. And why no president used it during the Cold War.

It's why in the 1984 election my father's political advisers didn't build an ad campaign around "It's morning again in the Homeland."

Excuse me, we're Americans, not Homelanders. This is our country, not our "homeland." In the United States of America we love our freedoms more than our mountains and spacious skies.

But if we don't watch out, one of these days the opening lyrics of "America" are going to be changed to "My Homeland, 'tis of thee, Sweet land of Germany, of thee I sing.

An Unfortunate Legacy David Limbaugh | Sep 26, 2014

David Limbaugh

Eric Holder has announced his resignation from his position as U.S. attorney general after almost six years of turning the Justice Department into a partisan political vehicle instead of a law enforcement institution.

It's too early to tell as of this writing what prompted his resignation. One would like to think his legacy of scandals and corruption finally caught up to him, but we have no reasonable expectation that this is the case, given this administration's agility at escaping accountability for any and all wrongdoing.

No, I doubt it's his malfeasance in connection with the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal, his obstruction of the congressional investigation into the Internal Revenue Service scandal or any other of a number of legitimate reasons warranting his repentance and resignation.

Republicans and other lovers of the rule of law also have little reason for optimism as to the character of Holder's eventual successor, for anyone President Obama selects will doubtlessly be of the same bent -- strong on partisan politics and weak on justice.

During their tenure, both Holder and Obama have also used the Justice Department as a vehicle to promote racial grievances, and they've made no secret of their obsession. It's hard to miss that they both view the United States justice system as deeply tainted by institutional racism.

They would have us believe that the system routinely and habitually discriminates against blacks and that law enforcement officials throughout the nation target blacks across the board, from traffic stops to drug charges to criminal assault and other violent crimes.

America gets no points from this grievance industry for having elected an African-American president. Holder announced early on in Obama's term that Americans are cowards on the issue of race. Obama himself has publicly shown his race-consciousness on numerous occasions, from the Henry Gates affair ("police acted stupidly"/White House beer summit) to the Trayvon Martin affair ("If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon").

Obama has taken his grievances to international bodies, complaining to the United Nations as if he were an advocate against the nation he is charged to lead. He has complained that we have had a poor record on civil rights -- telling this, no less, to nations that wouldn't know civil rights if it were tattooed on all their officials' faces.

Just this week, Obama did it again, while acknowledging U.S. shortcomings during his speech to the United Nations. He exhorted nations and religions to reject violent extremism among their populations.

He said, "I realize that America's critics will be quick to point out that at times, we, too, have failed to live up to our ideals, that America has plenty of problems within our own borders." America's critics, he might have noted, take no back seat to him in criticizing America.

He continued: "This is true. In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri -- where a young man was killed and a community was divided."

Instead of using their respective bully pulpits to dismiss unfair charges of white-on-black racism and the narrative that police officers are on a crusade against blacks, Obama and Holder miss no opportunity to promote these destructive perceptions.

The severe damage to race relations in America that these two men have inflicted is not the only negative consequence of their coordinated vendetta. They have deeply wounded the reputation of police officers throughout the United States. By suggesting that American cops scapegoat and abuse blacks, they are sending a terrible signal to our youth today, and not just our black youth, whose concerns about racial mistreatment by police officers they've validated.

They have also poisoned the well for all children concerning their attitude and trust toward law enforcement officials, which has done immeasurable harm to our stability as a society -- not to mention how disgracefully unfair it is to the large majority of people who serve honorably in these positions.

I spoke to an assembly of elementary-school children a few weeks ago during Constitution Day, and the theme I emphasized was America's unique freedom tradition guaranteed by our Constitution and protected by our armed forces and law enforcement officials.

I spoke against the politically correct narrative, telling these impressionable children that they should appreciate and respect our service members and our law enforcement officers. I told them that policemen are their friends, as long as they are obeying the law, and not to believe the constant criticism against them suggesting they are our enemies.

One teacher emailed me later in appreciation, saying that one of her students returned to the classroom saying something to the effect of: "Police officers are my friends. I didn't realize that before."

I am not patting myself on the back for my simple words, but I am saying that it's time that we all do what we can to reverse the egregious narrative cultivated by too many people in this administration and elsewhere that cops are our enemy. Shame on anyone who spreads such slander, even if some individuals in their ranks are bad apples.

The Obama-Holder legacy in these areas -- pitting races against one another and citizens against their government protectors -- has been regrettable, and we should all do what we can to reverse it on our own.

God bless our law enforcement officials and our armed forces.

'A' Is for Agitation: What's Really Going on in Jefferson County Schools Michell

Michelle Malkin

There's a big battle brewing in the Jefferson County, Colorado, school system. The manufactured controversy over a proposed curriculum review is generating national headlines. But the fight is not about what misguided students and biased reporters say it's about. "Censorship" is a red herring. The real issue is union control.

Here's the deal: Public school teachers in this Denver-area district walked out of their classrooms this week to protest the implementation of performance-based pay. The JeffCo school board approved the new compensation system last week, which rewards the most highly effective teachers with 4.2 percent raises, effective teachers with 2.4 raises and inferior teachers with nothing. Only 2 percent of teachers received no pay raises.

One fact the grievance-mongering teachers conveniently left out of their politicized pep talks to student sympathizers: The board gave bonuses to 450 teachers who would have otherwise received no raises under the union's arbitrary step scale. The old system didn't take performance into any consideration at all.

Despite the hefty rewards for teacher competence and excellence, disgruntled union leaders called for a strike last Friday (or as they prefer to whitewash it, a "sickout"). The Big Labor avengers succeeded in shutting down two schools -- and enlisting students to protest with them. But the optics of robbing kids of valuable educational time to protest an $18.2 million salary compensation package did not play well with taxpayers.

Enter the "censorship" fakeout.

At the same board meeting where the new pay system was approved, elected school board members heard a proposal to form a curriculum review committee. Under the state constitution, elected local school boards are responsible for instructional and curriculum matters. It's their duty. The proposal called for the creation of a new, nine-member panel "to review curricular choices for conformity to JeffCo academic standards, accuracy and omissions, and to inform the board of any objectionable materials."

The panel's first review items would be the elementary health curriculum and the A.P. U.S. History (APUSH) curriculum, which has undergone a radical revamp over the past few years.

The chief architect of the APUSH revisions is David Coleman, a progressive ideologue who is also one of the prime movers and shakers behind the Common Core standards scheme. Objections to the shoddy, intrusive, costly, top-down, backroom-designed Common Core agenda cross party lines. Rank-and-file teachers across the country have joined a diverse anti-Common Core coalition of parents, administrators, scholars, grassroots activists, privacy advocates and anti-cronyism watchdogs.

The JeffCo school board takes its deliberative role seriously. The proposal is the opposite of censorship. The debate over history standards is part of a wider battle between left-leaning militant teachers' unions, who explicitly see their primary role as Saul Alinsky-trained political agitators, and those who want to restore academic excellence, rigor and ideological balance in the schools.

While every liberal "-ism" has been incorporated into the school day -- from environmentalism and collectivism to social justice activism to mandatory volunteerism, feminism and transgenderism -- JeffCo school board members are now being mocked for simply proposing that citizenship, individualism and patriotism have a fundamental place at the schoolteacher's table.

Somehow, this perfectly reasonable proposal morphed into "JeffCo wants to remove slavery from the history curriculum!" Next thing you know, students were walking out of class two days in a row this week with "We (Heart) Our Teachers" signs. And the liberal Denver Post was running propaganda stories on Twitter mockery of the school board.

"It upsets me greatly to see children being used as pawns and missing educational time," school board president Ken Witt told me. And "we're not just going to rubber-stamp" the top-down APUSH changes, he says. But the bigger picture, Witt points out, is that the district's "union contract expires in August. It will be entirely redrafted." The agitators' ultimate goal is "to create turmoil and discredit board before those negotiations."

And they are trying to do so by any means necessary -- including misleading kids, spreading falsehoods in the classroom and instigating walkouts through student-managed organizing websites.

The parting words of former top National Education Association lawyer Bob Chanin a few years ago in explaining the union's main agenda say it all. After calling conservative opponents "bastards," he said:

"This is not to say that the concern of NEA and its affiliates with closing achievement gaps, reducing dropout rates, improving teacher quality and the like are unimportant or inappropriate. To the contrary -- these are the goals that guide the work we do. But they need not and must not be achieved at the expense of due process, employee rights and collective bargaining. That simply is too high a price to pay.

Listen up, class. For public employee union leaders, it's not really about the children or academic excellence or curricular freedom. It's about their own political self-preservation. Always.
