This third installment of writer/director Sam Raimi's comic-bookish horror trilogy that began with The Evil Dead (1982) finds one-armed Ash (Bruce Campbell) stuck in the 14th century, armed only with his trusty chainsaw prosthetic. After wiping out a few score Deadites, Ash plaintively asks to go home and is told that to do so, he needs to locate the Necronomicon, a book that can raise or put down the dead. Along the way, Ash romances the princess Sheila (Embeth Davidtz) and has to deal with the Evil Ash, a malevolent version of himself. When he finally arrives at the graveyard where the magic book is reputedly located, he mangles the required incantation and, instead of snaring the book, awakens the army of darkness: a multitude of walking skeletons. A wild Raimi ride, with a hilarious performance from the under-used Campbell, non-stop action, and terrific special effects by William Mesa.

Traumatized by her uncle's last killing spree, Michael Myers's nine-year-old niece, Jamie (once again played by Danielle Harris), is hospitalized and unable to speak. But darkening her days are the psychic flashes she experiences whenever Michael (Donald Shanks) is about to kill again--and inevitably his masked eye turns to her. As expected, devoted psychologist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) is also on the scene and working with Jamie to help her find Michael and lock him away. But someone else is also stalking Michael. Classic slasher fun with a memorable ending.

Poltergeist III (1988)

Horror
PG, MGM
Nancy Allen
Heather O'Rourke
Tom Skerritt
Demon-tormented, but undeniably cute, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) returns for this third installment in the bone-chilling horror series. Carol Anne has moved to Chicago and is living happily with her new family, Uncle Bruce (Tom Skerritt) and Aunt Pat (Nancy Allen). The evil in her past remains, however. Carol Anne can still see more than the ordinary human, but she doesn't want to talk about it. As she and a therapist try to uncover reality, an evil preacher (Nathan Davis) plots to kidnap Carol Anne and use her to his own spiritual ends. Look for a young Lara Flynn Boyle in her feature film screen debut playing Carol Anne's cousin Donna.
