Monday, January 31, 2011 Why Egypt Matters | Glenn Beck

Monday, January 31, 2011

This is a rush transcript from "Glenn Beck," January 31, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GLENN BECK, HOST: Welcome to "The Glenn Beck Program."

I want you to know before we start, I used to be -- no, I can't say that. You're probably better than I am. I was the below average American.

And by that, I mean, that whenever I would see, you know, a report on violence in the Middle East, I'd watch it for like 10 seconds and say, you know, I probably should care a whole lot about this, but -- bloop. And I changed to -- I mean, we watch "Survivor."

I get it. Most of us haven't done our homework on all of the chaos that is happening right now and what it means. Most people have no idea what these riots are about. And I'm telling you, if you watch the news, you are never going to find out that this isn't happenstance.

It is very difficult to care about yet another angry mob in the Middle East burning cars because I don't think I've ever seen anything but this in the Middle East, or at least that's what it seems from this distance. And you've got other things going on.

This week, I'm going to ask you to please DVR this program, and please do your own homework. In a few hours, millions are expected to be on the street of Egypt and food shortages are spreading rapidly throughout the region. The army, the tanks are roving through the cities, and no one is quite sure whose side to be on.

This isn't about politics. This is about world domination. The world is about to be dominated by maybe a couple of handfuls.

I believe, that I can make a case in the end that there are three powers you will see emerge.

One -- a Muslim caliphate that controls the Mideast and parts of Europe.

Two -- China, that will control Asia, the southern half of Africa, part of the Middle East, Australia, maybe New Zealand, and God only knows what else.

And, Russia, which will control all of the old former Soviet Union bloc, plus maybe the Netherlands. Not really sure. But their strong arm is coming.

That leaves us and South America. What happens to us?

It is critical that you understand the situation in Egypt. Maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't seen anything in the media that's helpful. Over the weekend, I tried to get up-to-speed what was really going on, and get a deeper understanding -- I have to tell you, I've never seen so much nonsense in my life.

This is what I got this weekend:

"Protesters want democracy." Oh, do they?

"There's been riots and violence." You think?

"U.S. wants Mubarak to do something" -- but I'm not really sure exactly what he wanted anyone to do.

And then, the Muslim Brotherhood is good. They're tirelessly fighting for the people.

Well, this is what I got from the media, over three days. But I don't know about you -- I have just maybe a few -- a few more questions. Like maybe some of these -- or maybe these questions, or this chalkboard full of great questions here.

And what are the causes? I like that one. Well, how about this chalk board?

I don't know. There's a few unanswered questions. And the answers, all this week, you will not get anywhere else.

(MUSIC)

BECK: Hello, America.

The media doesn't get it. And it is -- I mean, it's painfully apparent when you see Sam Donaldson praising Al Jazeera for the fine work they're doing. And when CNN praises the Muslim Brotherhood -- I mean, I can see why it's a group that many credit with the birthing of Hamas and Al Qaeda.

And this guy, where is it? Give us the hairy back guy. Love him. Yes, Muslim Brotherhood!

So, they're just in there for the people. Yes. I love the hairy back guy who was the mastermind behind 9/11. That's my kind of Muslim Brotherhood, huh?

We'll have more on the Muslim Brotherhood later. But no one seems to be also questioning the lionization of this guy. This guy. Wasn't he the former U.N. nuclear watchdog? He was the guy who's like, nope, Iran is cool. It's all cool. They don't have it.

Really? There's no deeper context, no enlightenment here, no questions that we should ask him? None?

How about this one? Is the chaos we're seeing just random? Is it because like a Tunisian kid had his fruit card taken away, is that what happened a couple of weeks ago, and now, somehow or another, it spread to this? Is it really because of the growing gap between the rich and the poor in Egypt?

America, what you're really seeing is actually a repudiation of everything we think we know. This is -- this is Woodrow Wilson, repudiated. This is Saul Alinsky. This is STORM from Van Jones. This is "The Coming Insurrection." That's what really we should be paying attention to.

It's the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who said over the weekend at Davos that capitalism is environmental suicide. And there needs to be, quote, "a revolution." Oh! Well, that's helpful while the streets are on fire.

The former Soviet Union, everybody, radical Islam, every -- this is the story of everyone who has ever plotted to or wanted to fundamentally change or destroy the Western way of life. This isn't about Egypt. Everything is up on the table.

Maybe I'm wrong. And I know they're going to call me "chicken little" and everything else, but this is the coming insurrection. This is what I have been warning about.

The media will tell you that everyone around the globe just hates America because we're wealthy. That's what it is. We're rich and we're free. Everybody says that. Even George Bush said it.

They hate our freedom. No, they don't. No, they don't. Some of them do. But it ain't about rich and free.

I mean, have you looked at Dubai or Saudi Arabia? They're filthy rich. They are building that. And I don't see them blowing each other up over that. OK, they're rich but not hated.

Well, maybe it's because we pollute the Earth too much. Really? Isn't China and India polluting even more? I mean, look, they're about to pass us.

Monday, January 31, 2011

Well, they hate us for all kind of reasons. They hate us because we're free.

No. They hate us because of this phrase -- "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." They hate us because we're hypocrites. They hate us because we told the world -- and you and I, we believed it. We believed it.

We didn't realize what the progressives were doing to us. We told the world that we stand up for freedom, truth, justice and the American way. That we stand up for the little guy. We stand up for the oppressed. You and I actually believe that.

Well, if that were true, why didn't any of us asked: why are we propping up dictators like Mubarak in order to temporarily keep things stable? Well, that's better than the alternative. We propped up the Saudis before they were propping us up. We propped up Saddam Hussein, time and time again.

After the Muslim Brotherhood created Usama bin Laden -- oh, I didn't hear them on CNN this weekend, hmm, guess who helped finance him? We did. Why? Because the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

That is a lie. That is why people in the Mideast who are oppressed hate our guts because the guy who's taking our family members and throwing them in jail and torturing them and then they just disappear is our friend. No, he's not.

Now, the debate is going to be -- OK, so, what are we going to do about it? Well, I go back to the one question on this program that must be answered. And it is this one. In all cases, this one must be answered. Can man rule himself?

Well, here's how we've answered it in the past. Well, on one hand, yes, here in America or in the West -- sure, sure, sure. But the people in the Middle East -- oh, no, no, no. Oh, sorry, you're getting tortured and everything, but you're crazed animals.

You got to be contained by some dictator. I mean, we're over here. We can rule ourself. But -- I mean, if they have to torture a few of them to keep them in line, that's OK. Freedom is great and everything, but you can't have it, because the whole world will become unstable.

That's what we've been saying. That is a little inconsistent.

This isn't about oil. It's not about oil prices. Stop with that lie.

Do you know how much oil and resources we have? We have enough to last us over 200 years. Think about how life has changed in 200 years. We're fine with oil. We don't need their oil.

What we've been doing is we've been buying their oil to redistribute the wealth. So we can keep them as friends. So we can keep everything calm. We use oil as an excuse and we have for a very long time. We've also been playing the game of -- well, sure, he's a dictator, but that's better than Islamo-fascist. Frankly, I'm not sure. It all ends the same way, doesn't it?

I mean, decay is the natural state of things. Everything starts out great and then decays. You should have seen me 20 years ago. Well, I wasn't great, but I've decayed a lot since.

Same thing with a dictatorship -- if you start with a dictatorship, oh, I don't know, in 20 years, it's going to be pretty ugly. The chaos you are seeing now is not about the crazy young men that are employed, unemployed. Those crazy young men, the poor, those without a future, those who are hungry, those who are misunderstood -- they exist. But they're being exploited now.

High unemployment is a vehicle that others are driving and hiding behind to get to a different destination. What you saw last week in Tunisia, now in Egypt, and is spreading like wildfire -- I'll show you a map in a moment and I think you'll care about this story.

This is the coming insurrection. It is. And it is imperative that you get up to speed, do your own homework.

I'll get you started. We've put in our free e-mail newsletter at GlennBeck.com as much information as we can on the beginnings of what we're working on for this week. But you must understand what is going on and it's going to take you a while.

We're going to take you from the very beginning and all this week, we're going to work you through, because as you will see, this is not about Egypt. This is about your hometown and your lifestyle.

If you don't become educated on this, you're going to be susceptible to this kind of nonsense. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIPS)

MOHAMED ELBARADEI, EGYPTIAN OPPOSITION LEADER: This is total bogus. The Muslim Brotherhood are religiously conservative. They are no way extremist. They are no way using violence.

They're not majority of the Egyptian people. They will not be more than 20 percent of the Egyptian people. You have to include them like a, you know, new evangelical, you know, groups in the U.S. like the orthodox Jews in Jerusalem.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm asking about the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization that tirelessly and in many cases quite courageously campaigned in elections. It has campaigned against the government. It has campaigned on behalf of the poor in Egypt. It has a long, long history in that country.

(END VIDEO CLIPS)

BECK: Wow! Ignorance on display.

So, what is the truth on the Muslim Brotherhood? Are they, quote, "just like" evangelicals here in America? Well, I bet Rosie O'Donnell thinks so. The White House wouldn't deny that today, which is amazing.

Is the Muslim Brotherhood really a pro-democracy movement? Wow. That sounds great! I mean, I don't think it means the same to you and me as it does to them, though. This whole thing is being painted like it is more freedom. But the reality is, it's just changing hands from one group of bad guys to another.

If it's really about democracy and freedom, why international answer and several other socialist and Marxist and communist groups, why are they supporting the Egyptian riots? When I show you the map, you'll understand in a minute.

People screaming for peace and non-violence, they are supporting. What?

The current premier of Turkey has said, quote, "Democracy is like a streetcar. When you get to your stop, you get off." Hmm.

So, we're riding until we arrive at the destination. It would be nice to know what the destination is. Man, that would be a good question for somebody to ask. Wouldn't it? What is the final destination here?

It's kind of like America when we didn't ask, what do you mean by change? I mean, you were asking, you were asking, but the press never asked -- what -- can you define change for us? We never found out.

By the way, ElBaradei, yes, the guy who loves the Muslim Brotherhood, he also formed a little group. It's called the National Association for Change. This weekend, I've heard him talking about social justice, but we'll get into that one maybe on tomorrow or the next day.

It doesn't interest the media. But once you have the whole ground up and look at the big picture, and you get to that one -- boy, oh, boy, oh, boy. It sure would be nice to know that, wouldn't it?

The truth has no agenda, but the media does.

The truth has no agenda, but I think ElBaradei does.

The truth has no agenda, but I think the Obama administration does.

The truth has no agenda but you don't know the truth.

The truth is this pro-democracy talk is the result of a progressive movement.

Let me ask you this -- why are people saying this like the fall of the Berlin Wall?

John McCain stated on Sunday, we can't afford another Tiananmen Square in Cairo. So, we're saying Tiananmen Square and we're saying the Berlin Wall. But isn't there a better comparison to this in history? Because this is exactly the same thing that happened in 1979 in Iran, isn't it? Wouldn't that be a better comparison? You know what? We should make that comparison and all the details at the bottom of the hour.

Oh, yes, because you won't believe the comparison. Anyone in the news, you know, bringing the Iran 1979 angle to the table, boy, that's -- it's been deafening, except on this network.

History explains everything, especially that history. Same with the Weather Underground. We told you on this program, you don't to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. We did several days on that report. It fits this scenario.

Did the media ever bother to find out about that? Did the media ever bother to find out what was Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn his wife, what was she doing getting involved in the flotilla incident from Turkey to Israel over the summer. Remember?

The Weather Underground involved in the flotilla with Turkey. Hey, wait a minute, Turkey, isn't that the one that just changed power. Yes, and they just had the guy who said, hey, don't worry about it. Democracy is just the stop.

Well, wait a minute, Turkey also just got in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood, who was involved with a flotilla as well. Boy, there's a lot of stuff to question here, isn't there?

America, you're not getting any useful information at all from the media. That's why most people sit on their couch and say, I know I'm supposed to care, but I don't know why I should because you're left feeling uninformed and helpless. They're not giving you anything. They're showing you pictures of people that are rioting. You feel bad for them, as you should, because they're being played.

You look at the angry dictator and you say that guy has to go, as you should. But why was he our friend?

Oh, we're going to unpack everything this week. There are going to be people that are upset at me on the left and the right. I'm going to tell you why we really went to war in Iraq before the hour is through. It's going to take a few days. There's a lot of information.

I'm not going to give you the two-minute sound byte. I'm not going to treat you like you're a moron. I'm going to treat you like you really do want to understand what's going on in the world and we'll piece this whole thing together. It's going to take a few days but I invite you to DVR this show every night and don't miss an episode. Tell your friends, don't miss an episode.

This is important stuff. A few people have it right. Over the weekend, we talked to so many experts and I have chalkboards full of questions. But we also have the answers.

I want to start over here. I want to start by looking at a map. And it is important to see what this is really going on and what this leads to. I believe, again, the coming insurrection.

Right now, we are seeing riots in Egypt -- riots in Egypt. Egypt is on fire. The little blue faces are really the dictators that we made friends with. We said, no, they're frenemies, really.

There is 125 dead in Egypt over a week. Egypt is a frenemy.

OK. Let's look at the map at our friends, our frenemies and our enemies. Do you see many friends? The yellow ones? Now, Egypt's unrest was inspired what happened in Tunisia.

Here is Tunisia over here. Tunisia was on fire. By the way, there are reports now out of Libya that riots are happening in Libya.

Oh, good. Well, here's the Sudan. Everything is great in the Sudan.

Here's Yemen. There's riots in Yemen. Of course, we know about the riots here.

What about the riots in Jordan and Syria? I haven't heard anything in Turkey. I know there are some in Pakistan. Oops, that's an oil rig. I think they have those, too.

I've run out of -- I've run out of riots. Tunisia booted their president out after a couple of weeks of protest.

All right. So, we have Tunisia. We leapfrog here and we go to Egypt.

Saudi Arabia, you think Saudi Arabia, nobody is going to turn on the frenemy of America, Saudi Arabia? These guys are dirt bag, dictators. And look, Yemen is about to be taken, so is Jordan. When that happens, what do you suppose happens?

What do -- can I just play this scenario out? Egypt -- Egypt is now Muslim Brotherhood or will be. Muslim Brotherhood, that's Sunni. Remember, Sunni.

Iran is Shiite. They don't like each other. That's Hezbollah and Hamas. Both want Israel destroyed.
