Wednesday, January 19, 2011 This is a rush transcript from "Glenn Beck," January 19, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated. GLENN BECK, HOST: OK, now, let me show you what is happening in the news today that nobody is paying attention to. Do you remember what got Barak Obama into trouble back on the campaign trail? Well, I mean -- well, here's one of the things. This: (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) THEN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BARAK OBAMA: It's not that I want to punish your success, I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you -- that they've got a chance at success, too. Everybody is so pinched that business is bad for everybody. And I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody. (END VIDEO CLIP) BECK: It's good for everybody. It's fair. That's when people said whoa, whoa, whoa, Marxism. Some Marxist tendencies here in his thought. Then he said that higher taxes might hurt, but that doesn't matter either, because it's fair. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIPS) OBAMA: For the average person who is making half a million, a million dollars, you know, people like you -- UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, no, no, no, no. OBAMA: That's, you know, that's chump change. That's nothing. OBAMA: What people really want is fairness. They want people paying their fair share of taxes, they want that money allocated fairly. Simply restores some fairness and a sense that we're all in this together. OBAMA: I would look at raising the capital gains tax for the purposes of fairness. (END VIDEO CLIPS) BECK: Purposes of fairness. OK. And here's what he said would happen to energy rates if his plan for cap-and-trade went through: (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) OBAMA: Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. (END VIDEO CLIP) BECK: OK. I used the analogy for the last couple of years that, I told you, they were building a machine. A machine you didn't want to see them switch on. And Congress was becoming irrelevant. The impact of Congress becoming irrelevant is regulations. I told you that Obama had the head of is Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs -- Cass Sunstein -- I call him the most dangerous man in America, because no one saw him coming or will see him coming even now. Of course, my detractors said, "oh, that's crazy, it's ridiculous, he's a regulatory czar -- he's the most dangerous man in America, yeah, yeah. He's a Harvard-educated professor." All he really wants to do is protect the herd. When we come back, I am going to show you the protection of the herd. What's coming now. It started yesterday. More on that next. (COMMERCIAL BREAK) BECK: All right, I just want to show you one thing real quick. Yesterday, everybody said, Oh, Obama has done something by executive order, it's going to be wonderful. What he's going to do is he's just going to, through executive order, fix a little regulation. Because there was danger over here in the economy. It looks like the herd might go over water. And we just want to fix any of this regulation. And here there was a danger of the tractor, so we can't have anybody over here. We want to make sure that all of this is there. And we're going to take down any kind of unnecessary regulation to make things smoother for the cattle. But nobody saw what else he added to this little executive order. Quote -- "In weighing costs and benefits, for instance, agencies may now consider equity, human dignity, fairness, and distributive impacts." So, in other words, is there any way we can -- because this is also in the conversation that we also are going to have to add and make sure we fill in any gaps that might be there in regulation -- we can consider all kinds of things now -- for fairness. As long as they keep us arguing about politics -- right, left, Republicans, Democrats, Tucson, Rush Limbaugh, Fairness Doctrine -- you won't pay attention to the fence building that is really going on in the form of regulation. Cass Sunstein. There is not a business person within the sound of my voice that thinks regulating equity, human dignity, fairness is good -- is good for business. Let the market figure it out. It's the hidden agenda. Yes, it is socialism in dribs and drabs. And it's also this: it is the combination of reality, of history and the truth. It is not hateful rhetoric.
