Truth About Health Care Costs Monday, August 09, 2010 By Glenn Beck The truth — it's a simple concept, really: Conformity with fact or reality. But Washington has trouble grasping the idea. They'll tell you "Faux News" is not really news and that you should read the Huffington Post instead, while at the same time spilling out garbage like saying the trillion-dollar health care plan is reducing costs. But don't take my word for it, look at the facts and you decide who is telling the truth. We told you many times this trillion dollar plan wouldn't save money — which, I can't believe we have to argue that spending $1 trillion is a cost reduction. But I digress. Last week the administration celebrated the Medicare Trustees Report as evidence that Obama-care had saved Medicare and the media cheerfully reported the news. But they all kind of forgot to mention the dissenting opinion included in the report, from the oh-so-biased chief Medicare actuary Richard Foster, who has only held that post for 15 years. Foster says the administration only underestimated costs by 68 percent and summed up their estimates like this: "The financial projections shown in this report for Medicare do not represent a reasonable expectation for actual program operations in either the short range... or the long range... I encourage readers to review the 'illustrative alternative' projections that are based on more sustainable assumptions for physician and other Medicare price updates." This is from the same report touted by the administration. And the press just ignores it. This is unprecedented. Usually the actuaries sign off on these estimates; Foster denounced them. But again, don't take it from me, and certainly don't wait for the media to report on Foster's comments.
