Dreams of Barack Obama's FatherMonday, August 09, 2010
What were the dreams of your father? Maybe he wanted you to go to college, because he didn't even graduate from high school. He probably wanted something better for you than he had. Maybe he wanted to start his own business and be his own boss. Maybe he wanted to take your mother to Europe or South America on a dream vacation. Maybe he just wanted to retire with enough money to make his golden years comfortable, enjoy his grandchildren and go fishing? Even if those weren't the dreams of your father, they're probably dreams that you can at least relate to, as an American. Chances are your father didn't dream of leaving his family How many of our fathers had that dream? There's only one that I can think of. Of course, the dreams of Barack Obama's father were a little more complicated than that, but essentially that's what Barack Obama, Sr., did. He fought against the "African socialism" advocated by pro-Western "Third Way" leader Tom Mboya and the president of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and in favor of the communist-allied leader Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. In a 1965 article titled "Problems Facing Our Socialism" — written just one year after Kenyatta took office — Obama, Sr., mocks the government's economic policy of "African socialism" while focusing on what needs to be done in Kenya: "What is more important is to find means by which we can redistribute our economic gains to the benefit of all and at the same time be able to channel some of these gains to future production. This is the government's obligation." He goes on: "But we also need to eliminate power structures that have been built though excessive accumulation so that not only a few individuals shall control a vast magnitude of resources as is the case now." "How can we afford to ignore the pockets of this economy which are underdeveloped without some positive statement about their development. In Kenya, the colonial government only developed the so-called white areas." Hmm, that doesn't sound Marxist to me at all. When Barack Obama, Sr., went back to Kenya he became the senior economist within the Kenyan government, until his disagreements with President Kenyatta led to his firing and apparent alcoholism. Back in Hawaii, according to President Obama's first book, "Dreams From My Father," his mother Stanley Ann Dunham continued to direct young Barack's attention and focus to the character and ideology of his communist, atheist, biological father, rather than toward the man to whom Dunham was re-married, Lolo Soetoro of Indonesia. Caught between three races and three worlds, Barack Jr., was left with the faint memories and constant stories of the man who left him behind and later the stories of his father's father. Hussein Onyango Obama became a cook for the British colonial troops and converted to Islam. What were the dreams of Barack Obama's grandfather? Well, Hussein became involved with the independence movement in Kenya and when that was discovered by colonial forces in 1949, he was taken into custody and jailed for six months by the British. According to Obama's grandmother, one of Hussein's wives, the British brutally tortured him while in custody to the point where he suffered permanent physical disabilities. Putting that piece of the puzzle into place might shed some light on the way Barack Obama deals with the British today. Remember way back in May when the White House said it would keep a "boot on the throat" of BP? Or when we needed NATO's help in sending more troops to support our war in Afghanistan? Guess who was there to lend a hand? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't Germany and France. But this shouldn't come as a surprise. The British were reportedly warned when Obama was elected that while Britain will "remain special" to us, they "might have to make room for a few more special countries" The dreams of Obama's grandfather — an independent Kenya — were realized. The dreams of his father — a Marxist utopia for that now-independent nation — seem closer than ever. The new Kenyan constitution was put to a referendum and passed late last week and the exciting new document contains a preamble, spelling out the "social justice" of the people's right to housing, health care and food. How will a nation as poor as Kenya make good on those rights? It also just happens to sound like the old Soviet Constitution, doesn't it? Somewhere, Barack Obama, Sr., must be proud. Now, what was it Barack Obama said about the U.S. Constitution? (BEGIN AUDIO CLIP) BARACK OBAMA: Generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: Says what the states can't do to you, says what the federal government can't do to you. But it doesn't say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf. (END AUDIO CLIP) Kenya's constitution seems to be a document of positive liberties; a list of what the government must do for you. Isn't that wonderful? In section 33 of Kenya's new constitution, under the heading, "Freedom of Expression," it outlines a few other specifics: (2) The right to freedom of expression does not extend to — I'm sure that "incitement to violence" or "hate speech" or "advocacy" won't be the least bit difficult to define. So are the dreams of Barack Obama unrelated to his father's? They are certainly not the dreams of my father or dreams of mine. Are they yours? My dreams — and the vast majority of Americans — share the dreams of our forefathers: The dreams responsible for creating the reality of the freest, most prosperous and generous nation to ever exist on Earth. — Watch "Glenn Beck" weekdays at 5 p.m. ET on Fox News Channel Carl Ray Louk "FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS" SG-1996 "LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY" SG-2000 "THE PHOENIX SHALL RISE" SD "EVEN A MAN WHO IS PURE IN HEART AND SAYS HIS PRAYERS BY NIGHT, MAY BECOME A WOLF WHEN THE WOLFBANE BLOOMS AND THE AUTUMN MOON IS BRIGHT."
