Thursday, February 03, 2011 Who Wants a Caliphate in the Middle East? | Glenn B

Thursday, February 03, 2011

This is a rush transcript from "Glenn Beck," February 3, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GLENN BECK, HOST: Hello, America.

We're still really tonight working on Egypt and this one -- who's organizing these riots? And what role are Marxists playing? What are the causes?

We've already talked about food storage, poverty and oppression. Those are all real. But, tonight, we're going to focus here, because nobody else will.

And I have to tell you, I don't think -- I don't think I have ever seen the left react as quickly as they did to my theory that I shared with you -- what was this, Oscar? Was this Monday? Monday? Yes, Monday.

Monday, I told you, not a theory of the caliphate. This is fact. Caliphate. And I showed you how it could happen.

And I was driving in this morning and I'm listening to "Fox & Friends," and I hear -- I hear a woman get on and she starts saying that, well, Glenn Beck is crazy -- these crazy theories. I want you to hear it. Actually, she didn't say it like that. So, play it. This is from The Daily Beast contributor.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MICHELLE GOLDBERG, DAILY BEAST CONTRIBUTOR: Well, I find it astonishing so many Republicans, on the one hand, crowed about democracy spreading throughout the Middle East when they were preparing to go to war for Iraq -- to go to war with Iraq. And now that we actually see an uprising of the Egyptian people demanding the right to self-determination, there's not just skepticism but kind of outright hostility, right? Your own network has been running absolutely, you know, lunatic theories about this being some kind of conspiracy between Van Jones, Code Pink, Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

ANDREA TANTAROS, FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR, FOX NEWS: What?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Yes. You're going to feel bad for her at the bottom of the hour. You are because it's so -- I mean, it's really like a fourth grade argument.

They were reacting with surprise afterwards, you know, like what? I've never heard that. Because she's 100 percent wrong.

First of all, that's not the network's theory. That's not Fox's theory. That's my theory. My theory. And it's not Van Jones or anything else.

Let me ask you this, let's start here. Since when is having a theory when you're trying to figure out what's going on a bad thing in America?

And it's really less theory than it is facts in their own words. But, just in case, let me show you what my "theory" is. And I stand by it. Everybody on the left, this is my theory and I stand by every word of it.

Groups from the hardcore socialists and communist left and extreme Islam will work together because of the common enemy of Israel and the Jews.

Do I have to remind you what happens to Jews under communism, or how friendly they've been to Israel? Do I? How about the -- how about extreme Islam? Oh, no, it's going to be good.

Groups from the hardcore socialist left and extreme Islam and communism will work together because of the common enemy of capitalism and the Western way of life.

It's not just capitalism, it's not the United States, it's your way of life in the West. And I stand by that.

Groups from the hardcore socialist left and communism and extreme Islam will work together to overturn relatively -- relative stability because in the status quo, they are both ostracized from power and the mainstream in most parts of the world.

That's -- here, I'll even put it up for you -- Glenn's theory. Here it is. Got it?

That's it and I stand by it. Is it so farfetched, really?

It should tell you something that the left has ramped up the spin machine so quickly on this one. Maybe it hits too close to home. You think?

I mean, it would be a crazy theory if I only had, you know, them saying catch phrases like social justice -- then it would be a theory and it would be pretty thin. I mean, we have that. Watch.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIPS)

ANJEM CHOUDARY, IMAM: I do believe that when the Sharia is implemented and you have the education system of Islam, and you have the social and economic justice, suddenly appeal --

SEAN HANNITY, FOX NEWS: OK.

MOHAMED ELBARADEI, EGYPTIAN OPPOSITION: A lot of people expected the U.S. to be on the side of the people, you know, who are -- legitimate needs for democracy and social justice.

(END VIDEO CLIPS)

BECK: All right. That would be a crazy theory. That would be nice, OK?

I mean, we told you about social justice. It's a code word. Not every time you hear it, but you should question it every time you hear it because it's a code word -- comes from the Fabian Society, the communist and the progressives here in America. It's really used mainly by those with an agenda or those who are just oblivious to what it really means, where the origins are from.

Now, if that's the only evidence I had to support the theory, then it wouldn't be a very strong case and I'd probably be off the air. That's why we've devoted this entire week of shows to diving deeper in this story. Far deeper than the, you know, oh-so-intellectual pro, anti-Mubarak demeaning news that they dumb down because, you know, I think most people just believe you are a simpleton who can't decide for themselves.

I know you can. I've even told you, don't take my word on anything. You know, you proved it. I told you on, what was it, Monday, when I did this, or Tuesday, I said, please look this up. I said, pause the show and look up the word "caliphate." This is a word that the left is dismissing as a crazy conspiracy theory.

You know, it's weird that they're dismissing it as a crazy conspiracy theory because that's exactly what Cass Sunstein said in a White House memo, that you should dismiss people as crazy conspiracy theorists even -- quoting -- "Even if some conspiracies end up being true, they do not cease to be conspiracy theories for that reason."

Oh. You learn from Cass Sunstein. You get out of here, you knuckleheads.

You didn't take their word for it. You didn't take my word for it.

Let me show you the Google trend report from the day of that episode. Here's the chart, caliphate -- oh, by the way, we're on it at 2:00 p.m. West. Caliphate went to number one at Google trends. You see the spike? That's when this program is on.

So, let me, first, humbly thank you for not taking my word on it, humbly thank you for not sitting there as a mindless boob or stooge. When I ask you to do your homework, you do. Thank you.

If you did, you know caliphate is not some crazy conspiracy. It's what the Muslim Brotherhood talks about. In fact, let me show this. I love this, over here.

Remember, Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. This is what they talked about, caliphate, Hamas, birthed by the Muslim Brotherhood. They talk about it.

In fact, they've openly pined for a caliphate. After Hamas won sweeping Palestinian legislative elections in 2006, they declared it "an important springboard toward establishment of the caliphate," end quote.

The Iran foreign minister said the antigovernment protests in Egypt were a sign of Islamic renaissance.

Wait a minute, hang on just a second. The guys -- are you telling me, Glenn, that the guys in Iran are saying they want a caliphate, too? Yes, I am. But I'm just quoting them. Look it up.

The prime minister of Turkey -- the prime minister of Turkey belongs to an organization that wants to resurrect the caliphate.

So, the idea may be crazy, I think it's crazy. A global Islamic order -- yes, that sounds crazy. But don't shoot the messenger, because it's not my idea; it's their idea. It's not their idea; it's their written and stated goal.

You know what's really funny? I remember back in '99, taking Usama bin Laden seriously because I didn't have a horse in the race. I couldn't care about politics. I couldn't care less. I cared about my country.

And when he threatened to kill Americans in our own land, I read his words, and I said, you know, this guy is not stupid. I think maybe w should read it and we should take him at his words. I warned that at the time that New York would have blood, bodies and buildings in the street. Yes, the media brushed it off. Don't pay attention to it.

Please don't let history repeat itself.

They want a caliphate. And it's not just Muslim Brotherhood or Hamas. There are several. And, yes, the Sunni and Shia, they do argue. They hate each other, but they'll sort that out after they kill everybody else they hate more.

They are telling you these things, but anyone who mentions it is the crazy conspiracy theorist.

Let me ask you -- which is more crazy -- taking people that can demonstrate they can behead people in the name of God at their own words or calling somebody crazy who is repeating their own words and showing you a videotape of what they want and asking you to take them seriously?

Which one is more crazy?

Here's the next idea that you have to have your friends call you crazy for, the other idea that I want you to research. This will blow you away. It's called Islamic socialism. Islamic socialism. If you are watching the show on DVR, please get online right now and look it up. Islamic socialism. Don't take my word for it.

I want you to look up somebody else. Tariq Ramadan. Tariq Ramadan -- he looks like a nice guy, isn't he? He is a professor of Islamic studies at the University of Oxford. It's great. Quite a lineage. His grandfather, oh, founded the Muslim Brotherhood. So, you remember, Muslim Brotherhood gave birth to Hamas. The Muslim Brotherhood's goal is destroy and kill Israel and Jews. And Hamas, well, they want to destroy Israel and kill all of the Jews.

But his grandfather founded the Muslim Brotherhood and he was banned from the U.S. He was about to become a tenured professor at the University of Notre Dame, but he was banned from entering the U.S. in 2004 because, well, there were accusations that he was supporting the militant Palestinian group, Hamas, which is the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood that his grandfather started. So -- all right.

So, why is he a danger?

Well, because he was accused of supporting Hamas, we don't want him around and I believe he was more dangerous because of his beliefs on something called Islamic socialism. It's a crazy idea. And it is an idea that -- you ready -- "to be a sworn enemy of capitalism does not mean you're a communist, a fascist, a religious fundamentalist or indeed an anti-Semite. But it is something these otherwise disparate groups frequently have in common. Advocating a revolt against Western materialism on the basis of superior spiritual values is an old project."

Yes. Yes. Probably back to what, Crusades?

I wouldn't need to come back to him and I probably wouldn't bring him up if he was still banned from entering the United States, but, no, he's not. Last January, President Obama and Hillary Clinton restored his visa. So, he's free to come and go -- isn't that great?

Just remember, Islamic socialism. This is why you see the left coming to the aid of the Islamic fascists, because they're cool with socialism.

OK, sure, but they're not actually going to behead us. We're their friends. No. No, you're not.

It goes back to the theory that has caused all of the problems for the United States. It's what got us into this mess now here in America with Egypt. We shouldn't have supporting Hosni Mubarak ever. He's a brutal, awful dictator that did horrible, horrible things -- with our money. Why do you think they hate us? Of course, they hate us. What do we stand for?

It comes from the theory "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and that is a lie. But that's what the left is using. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

They're all using chaos as an opportunity. They don't agree on the end goal, a caliphate or communism or globalization. They don't. But they'll cross that bridge when they get there.

May I quote The Wall Street Journal from today? Quote -- "Even before last month's popular ouster of Tunisia's president, electrified protesters in Egypt and across the Middle East, these people held dozens of meetings lasting more than 100 hours. They created 100-member shadow legislator of union leaders, judges, representatives from the youth parties and the country's banned but influential Muslim Brotherhood, say the people in attendance."

That is weird. What do they call that again? Tiffany, what do they call it, a shadow?

TIFFANY, "GLENN BECK" PRODUCER: Shadow party, shadow government.

BECK: Shadow government. Oh, this is the "Shadow Party." This is the book that we showed you. Remember the puppet show we did? It's a shadow party. It's a shadow government.

And remember Arianna Huffington? Remember when she had a Shadow Party Conventions? Isn't this weird how it all -- hmm. Islamic socialism. Got to sound newfangled; we should check into it, maybe it's something we want to do.

I told you trouble was coming in Europe. You should read this. It is one of the most evil books I've ever read. In fact, I was getting my makeup on. Believe it or not, I look worse on TV without makeup. Hard to believe, I know. But a bunch of us girls were talking and one of them said, Glenn, for the first time I watch TV and I feel evil. There's evil of what's going on there. Yes. Yes.

It's called "The Coming Insurrection."

I have been mocked about warning about it. And I'm still mocked about it. I don't really care. I mean, I've started to feel like Davey Crockett. You all go to hell, I'm going to Texas -- really. I don't care. Learn it, don't learn it. It's up to you.

Report after report after report after report talks about how the unrest is spreading everywhere. But no one's looking into who's pouring the fuel on the fire. I don't know. The blueprint is here. The blueprint is here. But people are living in a fantasy land. People are upset. They're hungry. He's a brutal dictator.

Yes. Yes! But those conditions now are being used. Never let a good crisis go to waste. And if you can turn the heat up, why not?

Let me go to the playbook written by Frances Fox Piven -- you know, Grandma as I like to call her she's knitting and she's also writing recently for The Nation -- quote -- "The out-of-work have to stop blaming themselves for the hard times and turn their anger on their bosses, the bureaucrats and the politicians who are in fact responsible."

Now, they want you to believe that after people in Europe -- or in Egypt have been living around miserable dictator who's raped and murdered their family members for 30 years, out of the clear blue skies, Egyptians suddenly woke up and say, you know what, things are especially crappy today here, honey. I think I'm going to go out and riot. And I'm thinking about socialism and social justice as well.

Really?

Those who want caliphate and those who want communism or a new world order, they all need the same thing first. Unrest and chaos -- this is unmistakably planned.

If you want to cause global chaos, what is the first place you set it? I mean, do you start in San Francisco? No. You start in Middle East.

If you need people to be hungry and you need economies to collapse, you start it in the Middle East.

Now, how is this going for you at The Daily Beast? You got this theory down? OK, good. Let's just -- let's just take it from here. Now let's look at Code Pink.

Here are the goals -- remember, the Muslim Brotherhood goal is to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews.

Hamas' goal is to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews.

I'm sensing a pattern here.

But, now, Code Pink -- Code Pink, women for peace, you know, their goal is democracy and peace. If I were on "Sesame Street," I'd say to you, kids, one of these things just doesn't belong.

So, they are for democracy and peace, so they just must be cuddly. Here they are protesting last weekend in Palm Springs, California.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What do you mean by revolution?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Revolution! You know what I mean by revolution. What's happening now in Egypt. The same thing needs to happen here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: OK. This is the beginning of it. Oh, wait until you hear about the violent rhetoric, wait until you hear what they want to do with me and everybody here at Fox News. Oh, yes.

Violent rhetoric -- let's just take a look at quick history of Code Pink. They were instrumental in organizing the Freedom Flotilla that provoked a deadly confrontation with Israeli commandos. Remember that one? Oh, that was Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in that one.

They turned up on the Muslim Brotherhood's website. Here's their website. Do you their -- do you have the ad? Yes.

Here it is. And here's Pink Code. Here they are in Egypt. They're all worried about violence, you know, when they organized the Flotilla -- quote -- "Hamas has pledged to ensure our safety." That's Code Pink. Hamas pledged to ensure? Oh, that's great.

So, they are working with the Muslim Brotherhood. They are in Egypt now. And they dig in Hamas.

Muslim Brotherhood in recent days has promised to end the peace treaty with Israel. If they gain power, they told followers to prepare for war with all Jews.

Planet Earth, I find myself in an exceptionally humbling position that for the first time in mankind, one man can stand in -- quite honestly -- a dumpy little studio in New York City. And his voice can be heard all around the world. Hear me carefully.

Humans, we made a promise to each other, didn't we? Never forget. It is at this point in the monologue I could just say Hamas and Code Pink and those on the left are just anti-Semites. I could question their motives about policies. I could connect them to the White House.

I'm not saying any of this now.

What I am saying to you is we have all the conditions for millions of dead, if we don't calmly and rationally fix reason firmly in her seat.

This is pretty important, don't you think?

Look at the cold, hard facts. These people are calling for the destruction of Israel and the killing of all Jews. They have a pretty good track record of doing those things. These guys are the same.

And then you have the left in bed with them and they're not the only one, we'll show you more. And no one is concerned?

Do I need to remind everyone what happened to Jews in communist Russia or Poland? Do I need to remind anyone what Helen Thomas -- what happened to Jews when communist and Islamic fascists get involved?
